My dog leaps up as if something is crawling over his skin

Hi, this is the first time I have used this forum but I'm hoping someone might have any ideas or information relating to a problem my spaniel/labrador has. He often leaps up as if something has crawled under/over him. He then looks round left and right and under him and is really edgy and nervy after that, it really upsets him. Its happened at different times of the day, in different places in the house, sometimes he's lying on his bed, sometimes on the carpet. He's awake when it happens so he's not dreaming. I have had him for about 3 months (he about 15 months old) and its something thats been happening on and off since I had him. I have regularly de-fleaed him and he's been wormed. I have combed him with a flea comb and found no evidence. He isn't scratching or nibbling, and his coat is healthy and shiny. I would be grateful if anyone can help.

My Goldie does that, not every day but quite regularly. He is actually scared of flies, I think he thinks they are wasps.
Summer is dreadful for him.

Sometimes even if a leaf lands on him he freaks

I'm sure i read that can be a symptom of blocked anal glands? It's quite easy to express them yourself but if your not confident to you can get the vet to do them.

I am wondering if it might be flies? Ever since my dog was stung by wasps he has been terrified of flies, can't rest if he sees one and if it lands on him he rushes to hide in between my knees or runs about in a bit of a lather, tail between legs. He is a brave soul!
