Quick Question regarding raw %

Hi All

as the title says, i've worked out when Tummel has a raw day he's getting roughly 2.5% of his weight(weighs in at 48kg and gets about 1.2kg) which seems to be doing him just fine.

My question was about the rules regarding puppies...i've seen 2 different ways of determining how much to give them but it's really confusing!!! Can someone go over how to measure out food for a puppy for me?

Thanks
Alyson

Re: Quick Question regarding raw %

I've never fed puppies but the suggested method for Prey Model is 10% of current weight per day until puppy reaches 30% of expected adult weight. Then swap to 2-3% expected adult weight. I think most people don't bother with this though.

Re: Quick Question regarding raw %

Thanks Goblin, I mainly do Tummels food by eye and it works well for us, i was just thinking about a starting point for when i get my next puppy as it will be mainly raw fed

Is there anything different to feeding a puppy raw? Do the ratios change much? I thought i'd do half raw and half kibble/wet until pup was 4/5 months old then mainly raw as i worry a lot about pup not getting everything it'll need

nope no difference in ratios and don't bother with the kibble

I just fed Harvey 2-3% of expected adult weight from 8 weeks old and thats it!

I'm afraid i need the kibble/wet pogo, if i have no other choice at the time it will be either mine or OH's parents who care for the dog(s) and neither will raw feed(not even if everything is portioned up). My plan is raw Mon-Fri then kibble/wet at the weekend so their systems are used to it

I'll definately use less kibble with the puppy then, you've put my mind at rest as i ideally wanted to do 3 raw meals and a kibble meal, then 2 raw 1 kibble then onto the same diet as Tummel will be on but i was worried so felt i should do half and half if not more kibble than raw

Ah fair enough, well all i can say is that pupster will definitely get everything they need from just raw so no need for a kibble meal each day just do them at weekends

Thanks Pogo....thats good to know I'll have to get a box of pigs ears or something so Tummel doesn't feel left out(maybe the pork strips from PAH, split one in half so when pup gets a meal he gets a half strip??)....when i get a puppy of course
