anesthetic

my poor old 12 year old girl is limping badly on her walk in the last couple of weeks and needs to sit and rest alot. i took het to the vets last week and she gave her a steroid jab, it helped for couple of days slightly but she limping bad again now. 3 years ago she had a bilateal fho so i know she hasnt got arthritis in her hips. she has a little heart murmour and is on renal diet for high kidney levels. what is your opinion on getting her xrayed, isnt it best to know what the problem is instead of us thinking its more arthiritis. because of her kidney and heart problem, could she have mild sedation instead of ga for the xrays, she wouldnt lay still so would need to be asleep. im so stuck and worried, she so happy and still plays and eats well, just can walk very well, please help.

Re: anesthetic

I think it would be best your dog had x-rayes done. If you are saying your girl wont stay still she will need a GA. Your vet can perform a blood test to see if your girl will be able to have a GA.

HTH and you get your girl sorted.

Re: anesthetic

She could have a sedation, although i would at least get them to try her conscious first. You'd be surprised at how some dogs react when their owners arent around.

I would also consider what you will do if the x-rays show up anything. At 12 years old would you have surgery performed? Do you need a concrete diagnosis, or could you just treat her limp medically?

Re: anesthetic

the problem at present is due to her high kidney levels, which she is on renal diet for but no medication, the option of painkillers is limited due to the effect they will have on her kidneys. vet gave her tramadol to take one in morning but this has little effect when shes out walking.
