Big dogs raw menus 40kg +

What do you on average feed your big girls and boys. My 2 get meals of tripe, turkey wings,turkey necks, carcass, pork joints, all hearts whole, lung whole, whole plaice/ mackeral/ trout. I feed roughly between 600g-1kg daily

What do you feed, how much do you feed, what doglet do you have?

I have a 45kg rottiexsaint and a 38kg old English sheep dog under weight still. And a smallish 25kg springerxlab

Nutter!

In the freezer is green tripe, lamb tripe, heart, chicken necks, pigs trotters, liver, chicken mince with bone. Basic menu, stuff like meaty bones, eggs, tinned sardines, yoghurt gets added as and when.

I think you know what dogs I have! They're all about 23 kg, youngsters get more than big dog as he puts on weight quickly (unlike his brother Jake who was a skinny wretch) and has restricted exercise because of his arthritic knuckle.

Re: Big dogs raw menus 40kg +

I've got two 40+ kg Rotties and a terrier x.

They are all fed four times a day, but the terrier has smaller amounts, obviously!

a.m. usually 400 gr. tripe/minced meat of some sort, plus turkey necks;
mid-day - 2-3 chicken wings or tinned sardines/fish;
p.m. bone meal, consisting of usually rabbit, chicken carcass, oxtail, always have two spoons live yoghurt with Manuka honey;
bed-time, either an egg, or chicken wing;

They have recretational bones 2-4 times a week depending on their activity levels and weather!

Re: Big dogs raw menus 40kg +

I think I need to up my weights as all are lean ATM. Just as I was getting the hang of this raw feeding.

Yes I am nuts right now. Try having Dylan on cage rest and lead walks only ( castration) and buster the hyperactive pulls like a train sheepdog and we are only on day 2!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Big dogs raw menus 40kg +

I did 3% of weight to start and I stuck with it even tho the babies should have more. They get loads of treats so I reckon they're ok.

Re: Big dogs raw menus 40kg +

I'm no use as i don't really weigh portions, just go on sight

My dog weighs roughly 48kg, unlike the norm his staples in raw are venison, rabbit, lamb and chicken. I don't feed full raw due to my current circumstances but i will feed mostly raw one day

At a guess i'd say Tummel gets roughly 1-1.5Kg of food on a raw day, on a kibble/wet day he gets 600g He gets offal in his rabbits and from the deer my OH shoots and he certainly gets a lot of bones which suits him perfectly

Re: Big dogs raw menus 40kg +

Surely 600g is not enough for a 45kg dog?- dex gets between 600-800 a day to maintain his weight and he is only 28kg's.

Do you not need to feed for what weight you want them to be? so if you think the sheepdog will be perfect at 40kg's he will need between 800-1200g per day

Re: Big dogs raw menus 40kg +

I've never measured out food, just kind of do it by look and if they want more, I give them a bit more Mine gets a bowl of Orijen large puppy and a tin of sardines or mackerel, once in the morning and once at night. Sometimes I add cooked vegetables too.
