They are likely roundworms, they get them from mum via the placenta and through the milk as larvae if the mum hasnt been wormed, or if the mum has a few dormant ones the pregnancy can wake them up and start the process.
He should have been wormed starting at 2 weeks old then every 2/3 weeks until he is 12 weeks old, and then monthly worming up to 6mths and from then on every 3/4 months like you would an adult dog. The more modern wormers often desolvee them but if he really has a bad load then you may see them come out dead within the next day or so, if they are roundworm they will look like cooked spaghetti.
To make sure you have cleared them completely and got all the life stages I would start the whole worming process now personally especially with a young child.
Roundworm is passed on as eggs which is passed out in the faeces of the infected dog. Other dogs then sniff or lick up and ingest the eggs and thats how the process carries on apart from getting them from mum. You just need to make sure areas are throughly cleaned and disinfected, if he does have any accidents in the house. Eggs can survive in the outside environment for a long time, so if he has been outside and the kids will be playing out in the summer make sure that too is throughly cleaned up.
Toxocara Canis the roundworm that affects dogs MAY also affect humans, notice emphasis on the may it can be possible but with good hygine probably unlikely. Human symptoms caused by this worm include stomach upset and pain, headache, sore throat, wheezing and lack of energy. It has been know to cause eye problems but these cases are rare. Have only mentioned symptoms in the unlikely event just so you would be able to recognise them.
Likely You son will be fine, if you have cleaned thoroughly which Im sure you have. If he hasnt been near or touched the faeces then again he should be fine. The only way he could be effected would be if he ingested them.
