Just to say that I had problems with rapid growth when feeding a dried puppy food with 28% protein in (before I switched to raw) and was advised to switch to adult food ASAP...which I did; then raw a few weeks later.

I wouldn't feed kibble again, but if I had to, I would never feed puppy food again TBH; firstly having looked at the ingredients there is not much difference between the puppy and adult versions in many of the good brands and secondly I would want a much, slower, steadier growth rate.

That's one reason I don't like puppy foods, not that I feed kibble, but I wouldn't use life stage foods in any case. They're a recent innovation, and perhaps I'm cynical, but it seems to be quite expensive compared to the adult equivalents of any good quality food.

Having said that, if you feel that your pup is doing well on it, and it suits him, then why change. Anyone who has an opinion about foods has likely based it on their own experiences, and I've never fed kibble, just read up on it although not so much recently as I just don't have the time.

Re: Connolly's Redmills Leader Puppy AnyGood?

Orijen puppy and adult foods are both about 40%, I've never had an issue feeding that to large breed dogs. Protein itself has no effect adverse effect on skeletal growth when eaten in excess. That is a myth. however, calcium and phoshorous will effect skeletal growth in excess and when insufficient. http://www.orijenpetfoods.co.uk/acat...reed_Study.pdf

The protein level of a dog food has does not directly reflect the amount of protein the dog will eat as the amount fed is also a factor - e.g. 200g of 20% protein and 100g of 40% protein will both yield the same total of 40g of protein. I feed about a third less in weight of Orijen than i did Royal Canin before that.
