Urgent - poorly puppy.

My GR pup is 18 weeks old and is not at all well. I got a sample of fish jerky tiddlers from Fish4Dogs in the post today and gave her one earlier. I don't know if it's coincidence (she also had some freeze dried duck training treats earlier) but she is now drooling unbelieveable amounts and has awful diarrhoea like water and has been sick once too. The drool is just pooling out of her mouth and has me really worried. Obviously I will ring the vets but she is our first dog and I don't know if this is just normal 'puppy picked up something rubbish and will be better after no food and a good sleep' or if I should be worried. She is an incredibly car sick pup so a trip to our vets down windy country lanes is going to be a trauma in itself so do I sit it out and wait?

Thanks for any advice.

afraid to say it , sounds like a trip to the vets is needed. pups can go down extremely fast with diarrhoea

Re: Urgent - poorly puppy.

Doesn't sound like a normal puppy thing to me. I'd get her to the vet ASAP.

Re: Urgent - poorly puppy.

I wouldn't consider these symptoms in any way normal in a puppy, in fact I'd be sitting outside the vets now.

if this were my dog , id take it to the vets asap . ive had dogs all my life and ive never experienced a dog drooling like you say , my lab drools when i eat garlic bread but thats a whole different kind of drooling , the drooling your describing is definatly that of a sick dog . tbh if she has eaten something being car sick is probably the least of her worries . if you wait and its something bad you will regret it . if you go and its nothing at least you have peace of mind.

Re: Urgent - poorly puppy.

Spoke to the vet and she seems to think Daisy has reacted to the duck or the little fish cube but most likely the duck in her opinion. She said that, as Daisy is not distressed, observe her at home for the next hour and ring her back if there is acute vomitting or Daisy seems in pain/distressed but otherwise to just keep a close eye on her until the morning and reassess then if she needs to be seen. Daisy has fallen asleep now which the vet said is a good sign.

Jeez, I have 5 kids and Daisy is our first pup and I get so worried that we are doing things wrong even though I'm reading and researching on here as much as possible. I have had a little cry as I was so worried about her - I know what I'm doing with poorly kids but feel out of my depth with the pup. I guess it will all come with time.
