Any ideas??.....

My 6 year old collie cross Cassie has got hip dysplacia and arthritis in her hips. Every now and then her lower back goes into spasm.

This has happened again, yesterday we knew she was in agony so we took her to the vets she was given vetagesic injection, her carprofen was incread from 20mg twice daily to 30mgs twice daily and tramadol 50mg twice daily for 5 days.

She had a really unsettled night of pacing and crying until I locked my kitten away and she settled finally. Today she is crying so much and every now and then when the crying gets worse she has a look of terror in her eyes

I have given her a metochlopromide 10mg today as she doesnt tollerate the tramadol that well (vet knows I give it to her as I have a prescription myself)

She is still really unsettled but we just dont know what more to do for her

Any ideas???? I just want her to be pain free!!

Re: Any ideas??.....

Fish Body Oil (ensure that the DHA/EPA content is actually identified not just how much Omega 3)
When you give this you MUST give Vitamin E (preferably natural rather than synthetic) as the FBO depletes the body of Vit E

I also give:

Glucosamine (HCl not KCl)
Chondroitin
MSM
Green Lipped Mussel
Vitamin C
Rosehips

All from Healthspan

I also give Cetyl-M which contains Bromelain, Cetyl Myristoleate, Ginger

Other products to consider are:

Devils Claw
Curcumin

In addition you could look at:

Hydrotherapy
Magnotherapy
Osteopath
Chiropractics
Physiotherapists
Acupuncture

Re: Any ideas??.....

Thanx she has glucosamine and cod liver oil both advised by vet.

We unfortunately cant afford the hydro etc as we are on benifits and as soon as we got her she had health issues so stupidly didnt get her insured!! (I know please dont shout I feel stupid as it is )

I just want to help her with the pain now, the look of pain, fear and terror in her eyes just cripples me with guilt

I keep massaging her back and hips and she seems to enjoy this but it only relieves the pain for a little bit

Cod liver oil isn't as effective as a mixed fish oil, I also use curcumin and apple cider vinegar in with my dogs food, as a preventative, and to promote healthy joints.

Re: Any ideas??.....

Have a look at the Mobile Bones supplement from Pooch and Mutt it's had excellent results for dogs with serious joint/mobility problems. Hope you find something that will help

Re: Any ideas??.....

Well I ended up taking her back to vets today as I couldnt bare to hear her crying in pain without doing anything. It was good I did, she has to go back tomorrow at 8am to be sedated and have an ultra-sound on her stomach and poss. blood tests. The back pain yesterday was masking the main pain that is actually her stomach!!! The vet is thinking it may be pancreatitis with the symptoms she has and how she is walking and guarding!!

Please keep your fingers crossed for her tomorrow
