So worried...

And feel so very helpless.

My Rottie, who lives with my ex (due to him being able to offer him a better home after we seperated) is sick.

My ex told me yesterday that he was going to the vets as he has lost around 13kgs in 10 months and was drinking excessively.

The vet has asked for a urine sample and hasn't given much away yet, but the ex said he believes it could be a tumor in his stomach .
Paul (the ex) has had expierence with dogs and would not say this for no reason... I am so scared for poor Fletcher. The vet is very concerned about his weight loss and he has been Fletcher's vet since he was 8 weeks old (now 6 years and 12 days).

I just want people to have him in their thoughts

Thanks xxx

Re: So worried...

Thanks for your kind wishes.

The amount he is drinking is being monitored (By 1pm yesterday he had drunk 2.5 pints of water already) and i think he will be going back for blood tests.

TBH his symptoms don't sound like those of a tumor now i have looked at it myself, but i am no expert.

My first thought was Diabetes, but that's mainy because i am a type 1 diabetic and thirst together with weightloss is a sure sign of diabetes in humans.

Fingers still crossed, and I am lucky that Paul will update me daily and has no problem in me seeing him if he does get very poorly... in fact i think i may need to go for a big rottie hug anyway

Re: So worried...

Got this message from Paul, my ex, about 5 minutes ago... I'm heartbroken

Hi love, sorry but I have got sad sad news. I came home from work tonight to find fletcher in the kitchen dead. I took him to the vets who have done a post Mortume and found he had a stomach tumour wrapped around his liver and also inserted into his liver. It looks like at some point yesterday that the tumour exploded which caused him heart failure. The blessing is that he went quickly but that doesn't help me at the moment. He was such a good and lovely dog and miss him so much. Sorry that you couldn't see him and I feel as though I have let you down

He was 6 years and 23 days old, it just wasn't long enough. The results were due back from the vets today after 3 blood tests, 2 urine samples and a stomach scan. I was going to go and see him this week x

Rest In Peace my little Fletch

Re: So worried...

Aww, I just saw this thread and I just knew what would follow

Tumours are a big thing in Rotts and they are just so stoical, you never know till its too late.

I am so sorry you've lost him, he looks gorgeous on the photos.

And I'm sorry you never got to say goodbye too. When our old girl passed over, my OH and I werent there and had terrible guilt afterwards, so we planted a rose bush in the gaden in her beloved memory - perhaps you could do something similar?

RIP Fletcher

RIP Fletcher
I spoke to Paul earlier and he said he had a spot for his ashes in the garden where Fletch used to lay, so I asked if we could plant a rose bush there and he thought it was a lovely idea.
I'm just so glad we still get on as it would be even worse if he wouldn't let me be a part of that.

He told me that he had informed the boarding kennels where Fletch used to stay and they are heartbroken too... he has been going in there on and off since he was very very young (as we used to travel quite regularly), but i just found out that for the past couple of years when he went there they took him into their home rather than putting him in a kennel as they thought of him as part of their family. He only went maybe 3 or 4 times a year, for a couple of weeks, but they loved him dearly too xxx Nice to know he was so special to so many people, not just us xx

Thanks for your thoughts x
