Concerned about saggy belly

Not mine! Sandy's belly seems to be quite saggy and her boobies have gone saggy as well (poor girl!) looking at other dogs they don't seem to be like this?
She is not overweight as far as I know but she has put a bit of weight on so reducing her food at the moment.
Is this something to be concerned about or it it normal!? Sorry for the dumb questions!
There is nothing else that concerns me, she seems to be in good health and very happy.

Re: Concerned about saggy belly

Has she been in season recently? This could be a phantom pregnancy, especially if she isnt spayed

Re: Concerned about saggy belly

She had a season in June (her first one) and then again at the beginning of September but that one was very short and very light.
She has been quite clingy lately and has been digging at all her bedding, are these signs?
I never even considered something like that, I am going to google!

Yes . Is there any chance she could have been caught? Any sign of lactating?

Well I would just keep a close eye on her for now then and give her extra cuddles, she will probably want to be close with you. If she starts lactating or seeming very under the weather and it doesn't clear up on it's own then you should take her into the vet and they can give her some hormone treatment. My poor girl got to the point of having morning sickness and really saggy, lactating boobies before the vet offered treatment .

Raspberry tablets can help with phantoms - I get mine from Dorwest Herbs

Its probs too late for this time, but you may wanan think about getting some in for the next time, coz if its happened once, it will more than liekly happen again.

Re: Concerned about saggy belly

Thank you for your advice. Should I take her to the vets, would they be able to do anything?
I was going to get her spayed after her next season so will have to speak to vet to see when this would be possible if she might have a phantom preg again!

There wouldn't be any harm in taking her to the vets but I doubt they will do anything unless it gets worse, they will probably just tell you you keep an eye on her and bring her in if she starts lactating or develops any odd discharge .

I would wait until the phantom has completely cleared up before spaying as it will have increased the blood flow to her uterus and can cause them to bleed out during surgery . It would be worth speaking to the vet about this as (like Ceearott said) if she has had one she is likely to have another and it can be an awful lot of hassle.
