Feeding a puppy adult food.

Hello all.
Our 6month old Airedale is much happier eating adult james wellbeloved kibble. His stools are much better and he seems to enjoy it a lot more.

We are getting another pup this week (whippet x bedlington). I wanted to know if the pup will be ok on adult food?

Lots of people have told me that puppy food is a bit of a waste. It would certainly be convenient to only have one type of dog food in the house, but I would defiantly do what is best for the pup.

All the info I can find on line is that 'puppies need puppy food as it is more nutritious'. However, I supplement with chicken wings. So the pup will be getting more protein, fat and calcium.

Also... I'm quite sure that James Wellbeloved adult food would be far more nutritious that the low end puppy food. No?

Re: Feeding a puppy adult food.

Adult food is just fine! Puppy food is a money making gimmick - nothing more

Congrats on the new pup!

Re: Feeding a puppy adult food.

My youngest went of the puppyrange at around 6-8 months if I recall right, I had brought loads in and did try to keep her on it but had to give in in the end.
No ill effects whatsoever, and remember it's only this last twenty year or so that puppy food was introduced (can't be sure but it;s not always been around) So there is many a dog been readed without it.

Re: Feeding a puppy adult food.

Thats great thank you.
We will be supplementing with other meats anyway.

We will by some of whatever they are being fed at the moment just so that there is a nice slow transition, but no more when thats one.

Re: Feeding a puppy adult food.

When we got my pup they had been feeding them on adult food as apparently they wouldn't eat the puppy food. So he's always been on that.
