Teeth cleaning ...

I would really value some advice about keeping Ffion's teeth clean. I simply can not get her still enough to clean them properly with toothpaste and a finger brush. She is only seven months old so I know it's important to get into a routine. How do you ensure your dogs' teeth are clean? Do the "sticks" work? Thank you ........

Re: Teeth cleaning ...

I know I should know, but I don't .... uncooked ?

So grateful for your suggestion and I will be rushing out to get some. My friend paid the vet £150 to have her dog's teeth scaled today .... frightening!!!

Re: Teeth cleaning ...

I started cleaning my two dogs teeth every day as soon as they got their adult teeth through. They are toy poodles and as my parents had toy poodles when I was a child who all suffered with awful bad breath and lost teeth quite early on I decided to persevere with my own two and they accept it now. I use a small headed tooth brush and dog tooth paste, I did try the finger brush but didn't find it very easy and I think the brush is more pleasant for them.

Re: Teeth cleaning ...

Hi, I feed raw so do not have to clean my dog's teeth, but if you cannot feed raw and you are not managing the toothbrush you may wish to try Fragaria (homeopathic remedy) or Plaque Off (seaweed) or Logic Gel.

Re: Teeth cleaning ...

Thank you very much for your encouragement, I will try a smaller toothbrush and I have the Logic Gel already. I am always surprised to have responses to my problems here ... and grateful.

Re: Teeth cleaning ...

I have recently had to start cleaning my dog's teeth. She won't accept a toothbrush yet so I tried putting the toothpaste on my finger but it was licked off almost before I got it in her mouth. I found that putting it on my thumb works well because I can get it right to her back teeth and massage while my fingers sit on top of her muzzle to steady her. I think slowly, slowly, slowly, is the way. I made a bit of a game of rubbing her gums for a few days and gradually started to incorporate front teeth, then the sides, then the back. I'm now trying to find one of those finger brush things so I can start to really get to work on them. She is really starting to accept it now and actually sits and waits when she sees the toothpaste come out.
