Mystery seasonal canine illness.

I have just added this information as a normal post on an existing thread,
but as the problem seems to be growing and more and more areas are being Involved, thought the information might warrant a thread of its own.

Canine Seasonal Illness of SCI is being investgated by The Animal Health Trust
the cause is so far unknown in spite of on going research. It was originally located in specific areas, but there are now more areas involved.

Symptoms are Severe Vomiting, lethargy, diarrhoea, shaking and trembling. If veterinary assistance/medication is gotten quickly dogs are better within a week to 10 days on average. Some have died from it though.

AHT have information on their site and are appealing for information in the form of a questionaire for people who may have experienced it in various study sites (I believe these are the original areas)

Re: Mystery seasonal canine illness.

Thanks for posting this.
We have avoided Sandringham at this time of year for the past 2 or 3 years due to this illness, but local vets have reported similar symptoms with no real diagnosis in several dogs that live in the north norfolk area but haven't been walked anywhere near Sandringham, which is scary

It is scary there seems to be more and more areas. There has been more reported cases this September 2011, then there was in September 2010 also.
Rendlesham Forest Nr Woodbrige Suffolk is one of the latest locations thats been added, theres also Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest too, although I think nottingham area were the first or one of the first cases.
Apparently the AHT has recently had a top Botanist from The natural history museum out to the study sites as they thought it was plant related of some description, still dont think that has been ruled out, but so far no deffinate reason tracked down. Hence the quesstionaires on the AHT site.
