Fish4Dogs

Morning all

I've finally decided to bite the bullet and change Alfie's food <gulp>. Feeling a bit nervous about it actually, but I'm not quite sure why Suppose it's because I so want to do my best by him

After spending the last hour or so reading everything I can on here about the different foods I've finally made the choice and am going for Bakers

just kidding The title should give a clue

Anyway, my question is, which one should I go for? Regular? Puppy? Large puppy?

The choices are here:

Complete Food - Fish4Dogs Online Shop - Natural Food for Dogs (not saying I'll buy it from here, will shop around for the best price )

and I'm a bit confused!

Alfie is a Dalmatian puppy, he's 15 weeks old tomorrow and I reckon he probably weights about 12-13kg at the moment.

Thanks in advance

ps. if I don't respond please don't think me rude..... Sir is napping at the moment so all is quiet here but that can all change very quickly when he wakes up

Re: Fish4Dogs

Oh, for goodness sake

Just doing more Googling and came across this thread which suggests that F4D is possibly NOT suitable for Dalmatians after all because of the high purine levels

British Dalmatian Club :: View topic - Sorry Daft Food Question?

<head explodes> Why is this soooooo difficult?!

Re: Fish4Dogs

First thing that spring to mind is " I wonder what DallyBanjo feeds hers"
F4D and ask them the question re the purine levels. May help you decide?

Food is a nasty minefield and we are always learning. Worst thing is deciding on something only to find, after all you endeavours, your dog doesnt blinking like it

Hope you dont have to resort to bakers

Re: Fish4Dogs

i fed fish4dogs normal size both normal and salmon flavours. Willow loved it and needed to eat very little of it.
She had a lovely coat on it too.
Obviously though she isn't a dal so i connot comment on that aspect
wishing you the best in your search

Thanks all for the replies

I shall give them a call and ask them, will report back with what they say I'll also send DallyBanjo a message asking her what she feeds, but I have a feeling she might feed raw and I'm not ready for that at the moment!

Re: Fish4Dogs

Well, top marks to Fish 4 Dogs Spoke to a lovely lady who admitted she'd never heard of any issues with Dallies and their food but she did say she was only a website adviser so said she would go and find someone more knoweldgable to call me back.

Less than 5 minutes later a different lady called back and yes, it would appear that F4D is not suitable for Dalmatians due to the high levels of purines found naturally in fish <sigh>.

Back to the drawing board then

Fair play to F4D though..... any company that does NOT recommend it's own products to any and every dog can definitely be considered unbiased in my book

Thats fantastic. A big thumbs up to fish4dogs for the honesty and customer service.
Back to the drawing board for you though. I can recommend ziwipeak and acana. Worth checking the feeding amounts and working out a cost per day for yourself.

Re: Fish4Dogs

There are other good foods, have you seen if you can get hold of Orijen? There are some online retailers and a few shops will stock it too (my local pet shop does). Its about the same price as Fish4Dogs and they have non fish flavors that have no cerials in them.
