Bedlington with late onset PRA - help please

Posting this on behalf of a new member amandab, will let her know that I have moved this here but please if anyone can help.

Hope I's doing this right, I'm a new member. I have a 9 year old Bedlington Terrier, at his vet check, I mentioned he seemed not to seeing well. The vet did a check with an opthalmoscope and said his retina was open, a bad sign. He thinks he may have Progressive Retinal Atrophy. I am aware it is incurable and his sight may go completely but know that blind dogs can live quite happily.
I am asking for advice from any of you who have had a dog with the condition. Can anyone help please?

Re: Bedlington with late onset PRA - help please

Posting and dashing Tashi, but I'd suggest it's more accurately described as *early* onset PRA, as all indications are that dogs with the genetic status *affected* are usually very unlucky indeed if they actually go on to clinically develop the disease, within their life time. Although the late bit in this instance, may refer to the stage in life of the dog, not the likelihood of the disease developing, if that makes sense??

I haven't got direct experience, but do know of a couple of dogs that have developed gPRA and lived perfectly happy lives, one developed it very early indeed, around the age of four.
