raw feeding questions newbie?

Hi ive read through the raw feeding guide which was fantastic ,but ive also noticed a few people mention barf? what is this ? sorry to seem a bit daft .
I own two dogs a retired male 6 year old grey hound and a four year old stafford bitch what sort of amount should I be feeding them raw ? I am currently feeding them wainwrights dry food but would like to try starting them on small amounts of raw also how much more expensive do you find feeding raw?
also to add my grey had had quite a few teeth removed on one side so drops alot of his food would this cause a problem with bone munching as wouldn't want him to choke?

Re: raw feeding questions newbie?

Just about to go and write some reports up for work, but BARF is simply bones and raw food, it's not necessarily based on the prey model, and some people (like myself) add blended veggies, because we believe they are beneficial, others don't.

I'm sure you'll get lots of responses, but the best thing to do is just give your boys a try with chicken, see how they get on, you'll soon know whether they can cope with them or not. Just be careful with older dogs who have been used to kibble all their life, either bash up the wing so there are no large bits, or try them with a bit of chicken minced with bone, to see how they react to eating it, and move on to larger whole chunks from there, that would be my advice

You can feed BARF that has been minced to overcome the toothlessness problem.

We find raw cheaper than alternatives or rather with research into shop bought commercial pet "food" that it is an overpriced product that exists to exploit consumers prejudice and facilitate the profitable disposal of human food by-products.
