My first Dobermann used to "faint" Sometimes whilst walking he would just suddenly pass out, lay on the floor for a few seconds (never more than about 20 seconds) then just get up as if nothing had happened. He never suffered any ill effects and we never got to the bottom of it. It happened once or twice a week for most of his life. He had a full life span and I just learnt to not worry about it. I used to get some odd looks standing calmly by an apparently unconscious dog waiting for him to get up.

Re: Weimaraner collapsed

It's interesting reading this as i've done some research and discovered EIC.

On 3 separate occasions my dog has started to walk with a funny gait on his front legs, like he was drunk, and became very disorientated with wide staring eyes. First time it happened I was in the middle of a forest, miles from my car and didnt fancy carrying a 32kg dog all the way back. To say I was sh*tting myself is an understatement!
Each time it happens I make him rest and he comes round within a few minutes. I started to jot everything down and the only common factor was it always happened after he'd been running around. Not immediately after but maybe 10 mins, and he's an excitable dog by nature.

My theory is it's either blood sugar level (I make sure I give him a snack before we go for a walk) or it's EIC.
