I haven't really mentioned it to either of my vets (Louie has two - one for at my parents and one for where we live) but I know my parent's vets will be more intrigued whereas the one little mention of raw to the vets up here and I got a tut down the phone (albeit a slight muffled one).. and that was the receptionist - the last I checked receptionists didn't have an Animal practice degree (can't remember the official term - apologies)
Anyway - Louie has been on the diet for 2 months nearly.. his backside is no longer runny, his teeth and fur could blind people (slight exaggeration) and I'm happy I made the switch.
Most Vets aren't nutritionists.. so either (as someone else has said) don't mention it or smile and nod - letting it go totally over your head. I think the only issue I have had with raw - is the dog eating it too quickly - throwing it up then eating it again.. other than that.. everything is fine.
I think if you're worried about the disease risks - as long as you buy fresh/frozen fresh meat and keep on top of the disinfecting where ever the meat has been - then you have no worries at all.. my dogs either eat out their bowls or on the garden.. their bowls are washed in boiling hot water - and left to dry (cool air prevents bacteria growing - saw it on grimebusters - or whatever it's called) I also have anti bacterial hand wash for when I've had to touch their meat and also stuff for the floors - it doesn't always stay in the bowls
Both my eldest (raised on wet and dry) have had no trouble on the raw and my youngest - dicky bum.. well my friend celebrated the first solid poo she'd seen him do the other week
By all means, look at both sides, then decide from there.. if you don't want to go the whole hog - go half way - then decide if that's staying like that or if you are going to switch over full time. But do your own research.. You're bound to find more pro's than con's but really the decision is up to you..
