Staffy with a rash...

Evening all!

My boss has a 5 year old staff bitch, he brings her to work everyday, which is lovely. She's very sweet and soppy but also as mad as a march hare!!

However ever since Ive known her, she's had a thing for licking her feet till they bleed rolling on the floor on her back itching herself, dragging her back legs out behind her like a frog and dragging her bum on the floor (like she would if she had worms)

She's been wormed and de-flea'd, the vet has said the only option now is steroids... An already highly strung staffy on seroids... not a great combo! She already has been given Piriton but Im sure that cant be a long term solution?

So I was wondering if anyone had any natural remedies that we could try to stop the irritation? I thought about Aloe Vera - thoughts?

Re: Staffy with a rash...

What is she fed?

What can cause severe skin allergies.

Re: Staffy with a rash...

Im not sure, she goes mad for fruit - boss is a veggie - and whenever he has an apple she gets the core.
Could that be a trigger?

Re: Staffy with a rash...

Can you ask what she's fed?

The cure is a MASSIVE no no. The pips contain small amounts of cyanide. The dog should 100% not be having that

Mine go mad for apple too. But I take the core out first.

Have a google. Please get her to at least take the pips out.

Re: Staffy with a rash...

Fizz is a staff x and has the same and has the same problem...even several skin scrapes didn't get to the bottom of it and back then I trusted the vet treating her when he gave her steroids and that was the biggest mistake f my life because it's ruined hers.
Please think really carefully before you go down the steroid route....
This stuff is the best steroid free treatment i have ever come across...it may be expensive but i'd pay twice this price for the benefits it has for my dogs and it i completely natural

Re: Staffy with a rash...

My staffie has loads of allergies all connected to her food, she is allergic to cereals which are a major ingrediant in most lower quality dog foods unfortuantely.
Not saying you boss feed low quality food.

2nd the Dermacton products, shampoo bar, spray or cream.
A skin supplement can also help in a lot of cases there is Biotic from Pooch and Mutt Dog Health Supplements | Natural Remedies for dogs thats had good results.

and also Yumega Plus Dog & Cat Supplements, Proven To Improve Your Pet Both of these may well be worth checking out and will help.

And you get a free gift with your first order...which happens to be a free bar of their soap worth £10.70. These other 2 links have some really good stuff on them and aren't too far off the reasonable price mark either just added the to my bookmarks

Re: Staffy with a rash...

I would have her on a grain free food to see if the problem is grain, if not grain it could be a particular protien shes intolerant to.

Re: Staffy with a rash...

Three things spring to mind:

If a dogs anal sacs are full it causes real discomfort and they can do things like rubbing their bums on the floor, rolling round, biting their own limbs etc so I would check that first and diet can help further episodes of this.

It could be flees or mites, especially if the dog is biting or continuously licking between the toes. Bathing the dog with a flea treatment and then some thornit in the ears and between the toes is good for that.

Diet - could be an allergy so a skin scraping would be an idea.

I would stop offering the apple cores though.

Poor dog seems to be in a pickle.
