Its odd that if he is on 4 meals a day he only goes to the toilet once. All mine as pups have gone at least 3 to 4 times from memory, deffinately more then once. Lots of things can cause upset tums in pups, eating rubbish bacterial infection, viral infection, internal parasites worms and as mention protozoan parasites, stress. The fact he is only going once a day though is unusual I would say. Diarrhoea in the true sense is hurried through the gut, which by the sounds of it in his case sounds a bit the opposite its passing slower through the gut if anything. Although chicken and rice is a light resting easily digestible diet, thats why its given and often with that the gut does slow down. Im assumint though he was only going once a day but loose on the other proper puppy food.
If you havent had him checked over by a vet, ie a general puppy health check yet I really think you should, certainly wont hurt. If he is bright in himself, interested in his surroundings he is eating and drinking normally now
wants to interact and is lively, I wouldnt immediately be worried tbh.
However if anything changes and certainly if its sudden, like he does become lethargic, uninterested in his surroundings almost depressed, wont eat, and especially if he tries to vomit, either productive (he brings stuff up) or non productive (trys to be sick and cant) if his stomach becomes distended and hard anytime, and if he stops going to the toilet or is really straining and struggling then I would be up the vets immediately or minimum on the phone and give a list of the medical history and current symptoms. Whatever happens even if he seems OK after this bout, I still think a through health check at the vets asap wont go amiss, very important and wise in general when getting a new pup.
