Excess chest/neck weight

Benny's got quite a bit of excess flabbyness on his chest/neck. Is there any specific way I can help him to get rid of it?

I can tell he's losing weight since being on raw as you can now see where his ribs end and his stomach goes in, albeit from the front and not above but it's an improvement all the same. He just doesn't seem to be losing the excess flabby bits round his neck and on his chest. His chest wobbles when he runs

Re: Excess chest/neck weight

I do a fair bit of hill training with my lab and this has toned her up no end. It is literally making her run up and down a steep hill. This sounds like cruel and unusual punishment but she actually loves it! She is tennis ball obessed and I hit the ball down the hill with a tennis racket and she retieves it time and time again.

Goig down the hill tones the chest and shoulders up and coming back up the hill tones the back end up.

Thanks I had no idea what sort of exercise to do with him!

We have quite a steep hill in the stubble field I walk in which he does run down, not sure how interested he will be in his ball on a walk though! He'd probably go down if I threw it for him but back up is another story as he tends to wander with his ball and drop it when he finds something exciting to smell So I'd have to fetch it and walk back up the hill with him

Re: Excess chest/neck weight

Throw it down - wait for him to look at you and walk the other way Then repeat.. or borrow another dog and he'll follow (should) that dog.. Sadie'll play fetch all day - hills or no hills.

Re: Excess chest/neck weight

Hydrotherapy is great for all round fitness levels, good for muscle tone and the heart. Bonus is you don't have to knacker yourself in the process either and it helps with weight loss.

Like with humans, dogs will lose weight from certain parts of the body before others. If hes losing weight then just keep doing what your doing and encourage more and more exercise. It'll start toning up in the end!
