Re: wet food plus raw

eek:eek:I spent £35 on three big dogs 25kg lab x, 40kg 1 yr old rottie x and 40kg OES. Thats mad!!!!

I have a extra freezer (under counter one) for them but have just bought a chest freezer. Give the lady at Nuturing Nature a ring, she does weekly deliverys. Its a newish business so she might be able to do a similar thing as darlings for less cash. I am still in shock.

I gave mine Nature Diet packets once, yeah wish I had an explosion smiley I was like this when I came down in the morning

Can I ask how much you feed your lab I have a Flat Coat he weighs around 36-38KG at the moment he has a tray of WW at evening meal and a handful of fish4dogs for breakfast. I would like to change him to raw just looked at that website and a 400g mince is between 77p - 2.00 ish but would he need a full 400g mince?

Re: wet food plus raw

Hes cross a springer. Erm I havent weighed food for a long time. I suppose he gets about about about 400g a day. I dont think mince would be great way to go other than for convenience I beleive dogs need to chew and cruch their way through a meal. Maybe use half the mince per a meal along side a raw meaty bone like a turkey wing or I got some cheap mince tripe once and stuffed it in chicken carcasses made them a new dinner. If you can see if your butcher can buy you in raw, unwashed tripe as whole or chunked.

Typically he gets

Human breakfast bowl size of raw smelly tripe (chunked not mince)/ turkey necks.

And a turkey wing/ sardine/ lamb heart or chunked beef heart/ Lamb bone

I weighed when I first started raw in Feb and then havent really weighed since, witht he puppy I stopped weighing his food at 6 months and just adjusted to his weight gain. I also make sure he had plenty of things like turkey wings and then red meats and fish.

I think I fed Teal 500g (lean high energy) but he put on weight quickly so just kept taking a bit out until we reached a happy medium. This time of year they get whole Mackeral, Pheasant, Rabbit, Venison legs/heads etc
The other reason I dont weigh is they sometimes get big meals and then smaller meals and sometimes no meals ( I try to starve the day after a big thing like a pigs head or venison leg).

My dogs have no set routine for dinner, I have no begging for dinner (until I come out of the food room that is ) and no set amount. Its something you get used to, On my long days at work my OH feeds Kibble as hes not keen on the raw diet as he doesnt like "faffing" as he says so I dont argue. Two days out of 9 isnt going to do any harm.

Re: wet food plus raw

He does already have meaty bones a couple of time a week I am getting round to changing him over. Just need to sort my freezer out but still won't have room for large deliveries was thinking of getting stuff from supermarkets, butchers & P@H they sell chunks of tripe I think.
Thanks for reply

Well, I've taken the plunge and ordered two weeks' worth of raw minces from Raw to Go. Their prices seem really good although the delivery is a tenner, so if it all goes well with them I'm going to have to try and find some freezer space at a friend's or family. Lesley from Raw to Go has been really detailed with her advice about which minces to start Sherlock on and I'm really excited! It should arrive on Friday, and I'm going to do a straight switch. I've bought Sherlock a chicken wing to try tonight...
