Vaccine Reaction

Unfortunately while at the vets today my vet was waiting for a very important phone call from an owner who had their puppy vaccinated today. The puppy had a bad reaction to it unfortunately. I know there is a thread about this but I couldnt find it. But i just thought it was important to report this on the forum as it tells of the risks that sometimes comes with vaccines.

Re: Vaccine Reaction

Thank you very much!! It's so frightening! I didn't even know until I read it on here a couple of weeks ago that it could actually happen. I'd never heard of it. I'd never hesitated at all when getting my lot vaccinated. I hope your friends poor puppy is doing ok. Bless him/her, he/she must have had an awful experience.

Re: Vaccine Reaction

A risk we all take when having our dogs vaccinated. As I have said before the director of Dogmatic lost her show winning Dobe to a vaccine reaction, it left him paralysed within half an hour of having it and it was a booster for leptospirosis he eventually had to be destroyed.

This organisation has many people's accounts of bad reactions to vaccines and also offers support, Zoe Lewsley (Dogmatic) also helps with advice since losing her boy. Canine Health Concern - Putting your dog’s health first

I hope the poor baby is okay and whilst I agree puppy vacs are necessary I do not agree with yearly boosters. Hopefully they will be a thing of the past in years to come as research is not only showing them not to be needed but also that overloading a dog with vaccines can be dangerous. An article in Dogs Today mag also called for the RCVS to consider a ban on boosters being done on a yearly basis.
