Re: Raw Diet "Diet"

I have a large, heavy set collie. The vets just weigh him and announce he's overweight. Yes, he's massively overweight if you go by all those charts that say male collies are around 22kg (or whatever it is!) - mine weighs 28kg. The fact he has a thick heavy coat and shorter legs doesnt do him any favours either. What the vets dont do is bother to check his rib definition or his waistline. I admit he's not as lean as i'd like but he's certainly not as fat as people believe him to be.

Anyway, I find day old chicks are a good, low fat meal for him to have. I feed these whenever he's had a fuller meal which goes over his normal rations. I also feed him a very boney meal (a lamb bone for example) to cut down on the calories. If he's had a lazy day I also give him very little to eat.

Re: Raw Diet "Diet"

Replace a small amount of her meat with raw veg as it won't be absorbed so no weight gain and if she's anything like mine she'll love it. I have often bulked up meals this way and remember the 2% is only a guide as dogs differ in weight gain depending on metabolism rate and exercise. For instance my Mals aren't workers so I don't use the 2% guide as they would get fat because Mals don't need much food for their size but if they worked I would give them more.
pogo, mrsimpson85 and Lil Doglets like this.
