Help - very travel sick pup.
Hi all! I'm new here and have really found some helpful hints and advice and was wondering if anyone could help me out with my travel sick pup. We picked Daisy (Golden Retriever) up at 8 weeks old and drove her the 60 miles home during which she was constantly sick. She is now 16 weeks and this is getting no better. We've been a bit sporadic with putting her in the car as everytime we do she is badly sick and it's more than a little off putting! For the past two weeks, however, I have taken her out every morning without fail in the car and we drive to a local beauty spot. We have progressed from her being scared to get in the car to her jumping in and being ready to enjoy her walk when we get there so we are making progress.
However, this place is maybe a mile up the road at most and this morning she was sick again after a week of not being and I'm at a loss as to what I can do. I take her up before brekkie so she has an empty tum as it's FAR worse if she's eaten but it doesn't help her much anyway. We are desperate to help her as a) I hate to see her looking so green and b) we really want to be able to go places as a family with her. Any ideas please? |

Re: Help - very travel sick pup.
Hello and welcome to you and Daisy,
All pups are different when it comes to car sickness, my youngest goldie had a terrible time with it and was also was very scared of the car and had to be lifted in till she was 7months and I do alot of car trips everyday and it took her 6months before we she was ok....but you do need to stick at it and dont give up or Daisy will never get used to it.I used ginger biscuits and brown paper and news paper to sit on as supposed to work but didnt work for her......I even put her on the front seat and had a lap and handbrake of sick ![]() I went to pets at home and bought a small box of johnsons travel ease tablets just a form of ginger and thought oh well lets try these very sceptical as quite cheap and guess what they worked a treat after a few trips with the odd sickness and getting better each trip. Now she is the first in the boot and loves the car.....so dont let it worry you as Daisy will be fine some day its just a bit messy getting there ![]()

Re: Help - very travel sick pup.
Sturgeron from the chemist is very good for long journeys but to go a mile up the road I'm afraid you just need to persevere. Most pups get over travel sickness fairly quickly.
