Re: Kennel cough vaccination
We didnt vaccinate Bella against kennel cough- for the simple fact that she will not be going in kennels! I wish i had, last weekend bella started with an awful cough and bringing up white phelgm, took her to vets on sunday and has kennel cough! she is a lot better now and must of come into contacted for a few seconds with an infected dog!
i feel so guilty that i did not get her vaccinated that i advise others too. |

Re: Kennel cough vaccination
well i searched and read this...and advise that both my dogs now have what seems to be kennel cough...in spite of being vaccinated against the parainfluenza strain...it turns out that you need 2 kennel cough vaccinations for different strains of it...the 2nd one is called BORDETELLA...
i just found this out after my insistance that my dogs had it at the vet yesterday i read up on internet...incubation period is 7 days average but dogs recovered or not showing signs of retching...yes retching it is...they choke...so word cough is rather misleading if looking out for coughing i suggest sore throat is cause and exertion stress make it worse and pneaumonia can follow so...where did they get it ? maybe the dogshow a week ago. all i can say is...i prefer the 50 percent i read here chance of vaccin success to zero protection i am most pissed off that vets do not simply list the known now to me 10 illnesses dogs get that vaccines exit for...then let owners decide what they want the passports just have stickers of the vaccines in them with no name of the illness related to them noted uselss..and even vets other than those who provided the vaccines have to look up on the internet what the stickers mean...what chance has a border control of another country official of understanding these stickers i suggest ? NONE ! not that in europe outside of gb anyone has every sked to look at the dog or my passports for some years now when i travel often. the day anyone does...it would be easy to dispute whatever vaccinations you say you have as you do not have the name of the illness noted in the passport so could wait a few days while officials with the power to detain you prevent you entering the country for whateer reason like they do not like the look of you or just want to make a case that day

Re: Kennel cough vaccination
Holly got Kennel cough after 2 months of having the vaccine. I wouldn't waste my money on getting the vaccine anymore and will kennel where the KC Vaccine isnt required. If they do happen to get it, Its pretty easy to treat. I personally think its the vets way of getting more money out of us as I was never told by the vet they can still get kennel cough after having the vaccine.

Re: Kennel cough vaccination
Mia has to have hers done yearly to go to daycare but if I didn't need to then I wouldn't bother as there is more than one strain out there and the vaccine didn't stop her catching it

Re: Kennel cough vaccination
I don't bother with it. Rupert's been in kennels twice without it as neither of the kennels we used required it, in fact one advised against it. My last vet advised against it, he felt it was a pointless vaccine for a healthy dog.
If it was required for any reason then I'd get it done but it's not and Rupe's bout of kennel cough didn't seem to affect him any more than a common cold affects me. It seems a waste of time vaccinating against it when they can still catch it anyway. |
