Re: Trying to find suitable dog food :(

Digestion isn't the problem it's just Zeus' skin that's the problem, he's really itchy on some foods.

I used to get AG Lamb & Rice before WW's, and that's when Zeus got into a real bad itching phase, but I believe that may have been because of the fleas the cats brought home :@

Bad as in, he had scabs all over his back, two hot spots on his rear legs, and was very sensitive.

Also a lot of the AG range contain maize in, which I kind of want to stay away from, but I know once I look into some the food prices shoot up

Re: Trying to find suitable dog food :(

Have you considered this one
Duck and Potato Working Dog Food 30kg

Mine didnt do v well on kibble at all but loves this stuff. Big discount for 30k compared to 15K - other varieties available as well. You will see it's made by Golden Acres who makes food for lots of companies. I've heard AG inc!
They use ingredients from the same silo's for all foods so its poss you will be getting AG ingredients

Just a thought - I feed mostly wet now and find that much better but she loves her handful of duck and potato at bedtime

Re: Trying to find suitable dog food :(

I used to try every brand going from Wagg (eurgh!) to Orijen which would cost me anywhere between £8 - £63 per 15kg.

The lower end stuff gets better results if you just feed the dog the packaging it comes in and the higher end stuff is a little bit better than that.

Found a poultry processing plant 45mins away where I buy chicken carcasses from , pre-frozen and boxed up - just got to give them a day's notice.

To feed three dogs on raw chicken with bones and everything nature intended (other bits on the side) now costs me about £20 per month and the change is remarkable.

No more skin issues, no more browning teeth, no more hyper activity followed by huge dips in energy and just brighter, healthier and happier dogs that can't waiti to get stuck in.

Have a look at Poultry Processign in your area and you can get 1kg of chicken with bones and plenty of meat for about 40p/kilo.

Re: Trying to find suitable dog food :(

If I didn't have to pay to feed my mums dog then I'd be happy with a 15kg bag of food lasting them a month like it used to, but with an extra full grown dog I just can't afford it with the wages I'm on.

I'm tempted to tell her to get rid of the dog as she can't afford to keep her, and I'm not willing to keep paying for her food etc.

Either that or my mum contributes at least £25 towards the monthly food bill.

ARGH, major rage!

Also I would love to go down the raw feeding route, but we have no space for the freezers.

Re: Trying to find suitable dog food :(

Will point out that feeding chicken exclusively isn't a good idea. Some variety is needed. If people want to feed raw please do some essential research first It is easy, it can be cheap but you do need to know at least the basics.

Our dogs have a lot of turkey as we have a turkey farm nearby which slaughters their own birds but they also have beef, lamb, pork and fish. Organs such as kidney are important in the diet as is liver. A good place to start research is the Raw Feeding: everything you need to know! thread.

Re: Trying to find suitable dog food :(

I've switched all mine on to Simpsons Premium Salmon and Potato and very pleased with the results

Adult Sensitive Salmon & Potato

I am on the breeders scheme, so do get it slightly cheaper than that

For dodgy skin, try Groomers Oil of Evening Primrose Oil

Groomers Evening Primrose Oil Dog & Cat Skin Supplement | Net Pet Shop

YOu can get it at most PAH - but it is more expensive than that
