Why do you want a calmer? Ollie is a cocker: I know you said you didn't research the breed before getting him, but you did afterwards, so you know he's a working type. Is this related to the lack of walking thread, because if he's not being walked enough, then you will reap the whirlwind, literally.

It doesn't matter if my three have played non-stop with next door's GSD if I'm out, they are still desperate for a proper walk afterwards. It's more psychological than physical.
he's a show type, not a working cocker.

He's fairly calm anyway, he's much better now than he was as a puppy.

he is fine on his current food however I think could I feed him something better?

Show or worker makes little difference IME. Why do you want a calmer?

Looking for a better food is always good. Use Sixstar's fab guide to get some ideas.

Re: What is wrong with rice in dry food?

I think it's only wrong if it doesn't agree unless you believe that digesting carbs puts a strain on vital organs which will have an effect over time. :-( Why not email Burns with your query. Put forward the views that carbs arent necessary etc. and see what comes back? If you are happy with the reply, then I would continue as you are especially as it's the only reason you are thinking of changing and your dog is doing well on it.

We all have to put our faith in one feeding regime or another and grey clouds hover over them all
