Well little Nala has settled in well, she beautiful and growing fast!

As You Can See!! .....

One thing is, Im not sure im finding the right amounts..
Im feeding 2 tablespoons of Orijen Large Puppy mixed with 1 tablespoon Nature Diet Puppy/Junior 4 times a day, 8am/12pm/4pm/8pm.

She only finishes her bowl at 8am the rest of the day she ends up leaving a spoon or so, but to me it doesn't look enough!

Im soo soo worried about bloat that I don't want to be putting to much down for her, but at the same time I don't want to not be giving her enough!!
Her tummy does often look very full, and sometimes after food she finds it difficult to settle, but always she sorts her self out after a bit.
I lift her water for half an hour around feeding, pick her food up after 10 min and make sure she goes out for a wee but then comes in and chills out.

Am I doing everything right? She's so so precious I wanna make sure I'm protecting her and allowing her to grow right!
Or am I worrying about nothing!

Cheers Julia,
PinkEars and Starfish like this.

Soak the dry if you're worried. You should put this in the Health and Nutrition section: you'd get more answers.

Oh she is stunning................. look at those eyes........... I think I'd forgive her for anything..................... you love her very much by the sounds of it. I worried about food with my puppy and the vet said as long as she is drinking and eating at regular times don't panic, when she is more settled she will start eating you out of house and home..

Bless her wrinkled face x

Sounds like too little to me, but would depend on whether they are measured or heaped tablespoons. It would be simpler to work out the weight requirement for the day and split that into the four meals. Personally, I would be mixing raw mince with the Orijen rather than the ND. There's no point in soaking the Orijen as it has no cereal and grain in so does not swell up like other kibble. It's highly unlikely that a puppy will get bloat, I've only ever heard of adult DDBs having it The risk increases with age each year and is made more likely by feeding from a raised dish, eating quickly and having a primary relative who has suffered from it. The Purdue UNiversity Study has a lot of information in it, but I can't seem to google it. Some of it is summarised here:

Wow she is absolutely beautiful, what a gorgeous girl you must be so pleased with her and love her lots

Not so sure what to advise other than what has already been said I'm afraid, only information I can give is that with my lad I just followed the feeding guide roughly for his age, albeit it I also used a general glance and feel to make sure he was getting the right amounts (feeling but not seeing his ribs etc) and he's a highly energetic 5 month old at a really good weight.

As mentioned I'm not sure soaking the Orijin will add to the volume, however my pup has been on AG since 8 weeks and to begin with I'd add a tiny bit of hot water mainly because it smelt a bit more enticing for him, but saying that he's always wolfed it down and enjoys it immensely so it's not been much of an issue

Good luck with her x

Bloat (GDV) Study
Thank you, well I'm heaping the spoons, but to me it seems to little. I will go with what the pack says for her and add some mince, how much mince? and how much shall I take off her daily feedin amount of Orijen??
I must admit I did try adding some water but it made o difference! That will be why!
Thank you for you help!

Re: DDB Puppy feeding advice. pls! (+pics)

a 100g of mince has about half the nutritional content of Orijen. I feed an adult DDB 200g of mince with about the same weight in orijen (it's half a large scoop I got from PAH) I would be feeding a three month old puppy the same weight. I would build up to that from 8 weeks, maybe from about half that total weight. I generally feed slightly less than the recommended amount, though. They do get treats etc on top of their food. Your puppy will probably put on about a kilo of weight each week.

Awww she's lovely and you sound a v dedicate mum

Excellent choice of foods btw

Why dont you email champion pet foods - orijen manufacturers and Naturediet for a bit of food advice. I'm sure they wont have any problems with you mixing dry and wet and I know both companies have excellent customer service

I'm a bit concerned feeding kibble and I do what someone here suggested (apologies cant remember who) when I feed the occasional kibble meal. Mix your spoon of ND with water to a gruel then add the orijen and mix together. Plenty of water going in with it should alleviate your bloat worries (but ask the manufactureres)
