Spays?

We're having Aya spayed in november, how do the girls bounce back in comparason to boys? She isn't the first bitch I've ever owned but she is the first I've ever had spayed so I was just wondering if the recovery time is any diffirent?

Re: Spays?

little bit longer than the boys, as its a more serious op.
Red has his bits off at the rescue and was with us and fine the next day
Samba was spayed yesterday and is still feeling very sorry for herself
(but then she is a big whinge bag lol )

Re: Spays?

I think it depends on the dog, Holly did'nt seem to notice & took great delight in makeing everyone else suffer by bashing into legs with her lampshade Banjo was in a right state after his but we know why now

Hope Aya is as good as Holly was, except with the lampshade

Re: Spays?

I agree with Dally Banjo - it greatly depends on the bitch, her age when she is spayed and to some extent the expertise of the vet. The incision can be a mere 1" long in the crook of the leg to 5" long down the middle of their belly.

I've had all mine spayed early and its more a case of trying to restrain them after 24 hours, when they want to go tearing about.

Re: Spays?

Before when I had Yuri done he had a really hard time so I hope Aya doesn't. Yuri had to go on anti biotics and he was crying in pain for a week. It was so sad seeing him like that it made me cry a few times (the crying from him was awful!). We are going to use some crate time and also some kitchen time I think to help keep her resting. Aya is a licker so there isn't a chance she's having the lamp off and I think the others would try and clean her. The only thing I'm worried about is her and Yuri are very close and the only time they haven't shared their bed is when Aya was in season. But they have always chose to share their bed together. So I'm wondering how they will be as it wasn't very nice when she was in season. She'll be just over 1 so I hope that she'll be ok.
