Raw Diet
Hi im new to this site and have read several threads relating to feeding a raw diet. I have a 10 year old German Shepherd called Sasha and have in the last few days changed her diet to raw. I have been feeding chicken mince from pets at home and the odd bit of liver mixed with finely chopped kale and carrot and today added a raw egg. She seemed to be doing really well, no bad smells and her energy levels have increased but tonight on her walk she had a very runny poo and was wondering if I am doing something wrong. Very concerned that I could be doing more harm than good, especially with her being an older dog.
Any advice or reasurance would be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

Re: Raw Diet
Do they ever have the runs on it? I gave Sasha a bone tonight and she just wandered round the house serching for a good place to hide it! In the end she gave it back to me lol bless. Loving the name Sasha by the way.

Re: Raw Diet
My 2 are also fed on raw. My boy was about 17 months old when we changed and my girl a puppy at 3 1/2 months. They get chicken, turkey, lamb, beef, rabbit, tripe, kidneys, livers, hearts, various fish, raw liquidised fruit & veg, raw eggs and to be honest they haven't had a runny bum on it at all.
Has she eaten something nasty of a walk or had some commercial treats beacuse this can upset my 2. Also did you make the change over gradually? beacause sudden diet change can upset the mechanics for a while.

Re: Raw Diet
This is not uncommon when transfering over to Raw. Firstly offal (liver, kidney) has a tendancy to cause runs initially. Whilst the ideal is 5 - 10% offal, when just starting you should limit this to ensure that you dog is comfortable with main food sources.
Chicken is a good start (some dogs are allergic so you have to watch for this) feed it for a couple of weeks and the slowly introduce other foods. Beef can sometimes be a little rich for the new starter as well.
