Help

Hello all I need your help

I have two dogs, a 5 year old Lab and a 2 year old Beagle Cross.

Up until recently they were fed on things like Skinners, then my wife went on maternity and I dropped to Dr Johns Silver working dog food for a few months.

In that time my Beagle developed a skin condition and was itching the whole time. I took her to the vets and they said it was likely to be the food.

I can't go back to Skinners as I now live in a remote Scottish Island and to post it here is about £20.00.

I have put my girls on James Well beloved Ocean Fish and rice to heal them up but can't sustain the £48.00 a bag every 3-4 weeks at the minute.

I need a quality dog food that is cheaper if possible that won't compromise their health.

Off the top of my head I can get all the Dodson and Horrell range ie) Chudleys, all the Gilbertson and Page stuff, Beta and James Wellbeloved.

Postage is an option and I'm happy to do that

CSJ? I think they are called, I can get two bags off them for £10.00 postage which isn't bad.

Can you recommend a good, wholesome no rubbish food that I can get, that would work out cheaper than JWB even with postage?

Thanks and Hello!!!

Re: Help

Just found out that I can get skinners for £20.00 with £5.00 postage, not bad.

Is Skinners better that the rest, Chudleys etc..?

Skinners Salmon and Rice and Duck and Rice (Field and Trial range) are really good for the money. No wheat, which is what I would avoid for a dog with skin problems or allergies. Personally I'd try your dog on the Salmon and Rice - no nasty additives in that food, all natural and I would prefer that over Chudleys. Hope that helps.

BTW. Skinners Maintenance, Crunchy, etc contain wheat so would avoid those - def. go for the Salmon or Duck.

Re: Help

Skinners is still better quality than many more expensive foods but as well as postage costs you should look at feeding amounts. Higher quality foods generally require lower feeding amounts, which then offsets the higher price. Following an excellent comparison on here the other day I actually worked out that it would be cheaper for me to feed my 30kg lab/springer on Taste of the Wild (very good quality but about £50 for 13kg eek!) than it would be to feed him Bakers Complete.

Hi,you could maybe look at the Arden Grange from Berriewoods- Multi Bag Deal-Arden Grange Adult Lamb & Rice 15kg- 2 bags @ £26.13/bag, 4 @ £24.88/bag, 6 @ £24.46/ bag + FREE DELIVERY on everything you order. - Berriewood Pet Supplies but a £12 delivery would apply to the islands, still works out cheaper than JWB!

Also Pets At Home do free delivery over £29 to anywhere in the Uk,including Scottish isles,so this is also a good option, loads of dry foods to choose but try to pick a food without to much grains!
An eg would be- Wainwright's Complete Puppy Food with Salmon & Potato 2kg and 15kg | Pets at Home

Vetuk do delivery for £5 Dog Food Brands | Cat Food Brands | Pet Food Brands

Also- Buy Fish 4 Dogs Products, Online Pharmacy UK, Discount Prices for £5 delivery!

I hope you find something, let me know if you would like any other information!

And welcome to the forum

Re: Help

Brilliant, I had to move quick to take in account for delivery times.

I can see that Skinners is a good food because of the amount of you that use it. As I used to buy it, I bought it from VETUK, only £5.00 p+p, not bad!!!!!

Hopefully they will do great on it!!!

Thank you

Re: Help

I've been looking at Skinner's too - it's cheaper than Bakers that my dog is on just now! I see you recommend the Salmon and Duck ones, is this the field and trial ones?
