Need advice please.

Hello all.

I own a lovely female golden retriever and I have taken absolutely the best care for her.

Two days ago a black crust like appeared on the tip of her ears. I immediately went to the vet and he told me that it was probably a wound for insect bites or another type of injury. He gave me pet disinfectant and john's worth oil

This is a photo of her left ear which is worse than the right.

In this picture the ear is disinfected and the hair is removed.

Please, any type of an advice or information is highly welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Need advice please.

Could be mange or even fly strike.

Re: Need advice please.

Sorry, I don't know what it is but the vets diagnosis of insect bite or injury seems a bit odd if it is on both ears

Poor girl hope this gets sorted quickly for her.
Has she had Panacur recently? Proliferative vascular necrosis of the pinnae which has been associated with fenbendazole treatment.

Re: Need advice please.

Has she been scratching or rubbing the ears prior to this? If so it could have been caused by trauma. Dogs can pick up Mange mites and ears, muzzle and face are one of the first plaes it starts, it tends to be intensely itchy, So if she has been scratching it could be a combination. Sometimes not always if they have picked up sarcoptic/mange mites and you rub the ear flap between thumb and forefinger gently you get a reflex where there back legs will start to move almost as if in a scratching motion. Doesnt always happen, but might be worth a ty if it does happen I would suspect mites especially if she has been scratching or rubbing the ears.
