Re: DOG arthritis

my (halfbreed) pointer seems to have a slight problem but I didn't want to give her drugs I've read some terrible stuff about arthritis painkillers. I tried giving her some codliver oil daily(essential fatty acids are supposed to be really good for their joints)and it seems to be working. it also worked for my fathers Irish setter which had a much bigger problem

Re: DOG arthritis

Alfie's going to get arthritis because of his ligament trouble, everybody suggests glucosimine and condroitin, also several people have suggested green lipped mussel, which is a new one for me, don't know anything about it

Re: DOG arthritis

My dog gets those supplements mentioned above, but also has regular courses of cartrophen injections at the vets which help maintain cartilage in the joints. They have been extremely beneficial and he is a different dog to the pup who was suffering so much he could hardly walk.

Re: DOG arthritis

My Dog has Hip Displasia and I treated this with controlled exercise diet and tablets, (glucosamine, chrondrotin, rose hip (fantastic drug traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory properties, Vit C, green Lipped Mussel *Stinks* etc)

After a second opinion visit to a Vetinary Practice, it was also confirmed that Osteoarthritis has began to show its ugly self. The Vetinary surgeon that diagnosed George recommended a course of injections and I would recommend these to anybody who is using Rimadyl or Metacam

It is called Cartrophen Vet Injections, its not only a pain relieve; it actually treats the underlying disease process of osteoarthritis.

If you could see the difference these injections have made to my dog, you would be amazed, he is totally a different dog, He is showing moderate signs of osteoarthritis and will have 2 courses of Cartrophen that last four weeks (every 6 mths).

Cartrophen and Osteoarthritis

Rimadyl is also known as 'Carprofen.' There is another drug, developed in Australia before Rimadyl, called 'Cartrophen.' Although the generic names are similar, the drugs are radically different. Cartrophen Vet is not an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), as Rimadyl is.

Re: DOG arthritis

One of the best supplement is Glucosamine Chondroitin. I take it myself for my problem and started to give it to my dog recently. It is natural remedy for arthritis.
