what dog food would you recommend?

hey ,
I am currently feeding my puppy Gusto , as that is what the breeder fed him when he was with her. The breeder said that it is a really good dog food , and also it's really cheap but I just wanted to know what people on here think about it and if they don't think it's good then are there any other dog foods that they would suggest??

thanks

Re: what dog food would you recommend?

What sort of budget do you have?? Not sure of the ingredients in gusto but a good rule of thumb is to definately avoid artificial colours and preservatives/EC additives and from there, chose the food with as few cereals as your money will buy.
Sorry it's a bit vague but it's easy to rattle off a list of good foods but better to know your budget first.

For starters, I would say CSJ and MyMadDog do a few good budget ranges.

Re: what dog food would you recommend?

Avoid anything that has an ingredient list that starts 'cereals' or Wheat'

good valu foods are skinners, supadog lamb & rice and on or two others

Gusto is pretty awful. same quality as Wagg,

Re: what dog food would you recommend?

It all depends on the dog's breed. Some dogs require more protein and some others can’t handle too much grain. I prefer raw feeding, a good wet food and a top quality grain free dry food. You should also take care of some healthy ingredients like essential amino acids, proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates and antioxidants to promote healthy life of your dog.

We swear by Burns food or Royal Canin; not cheap but very good quality

Re: what dog food would you recommend?

I use CSJ, have been for about a year now and i know it's far from the best food but i don't have a fantastic budget and i do have a large dog. I feed raw part time too so 1 bag of CSJ hi-lost lasts me about 6-8 weeks

CSJ suits my dog, his coat is good, his poo is good, he's not hyper, he never misses a meal etc etc, and at £11.50 a bag from my local CSJ supplier it's something he'll always be able to have

Re: what dog food would you recommend?

Ask about best food and you'll get lots of different answers although there are several which will be mentioned again and again and these will require further investigation. You should also bear in mind that a food one dog does well on another may not tolerate.

For a start I would peruse The Dry Dog Food Index and and if you would consider wet food The Wet Dog Food Index

Even these are only one person's opinion however.
