You just said you'r enot a breeder but have previously stated you have three litters a year.

No your looking at the wrong post.... This is her first and only litter. We didn't ever want her to have pups. And the previous has one male dog a pom... So its a pretty good guess!

To the OP, I know vets who have been vets for longer than I've been alive, doesn't make me trust them enough with my bitch regarding canine reproduction. But then if you would rather just trust the advice of someone than take honest opinions from people who know what they're talking about, good on ya
Rather trust someone i have known for years than a complete stranger...

Isn't it great when the people you trust also happen to tell you what you want to hear?

Re: Very picky Chihuahua

Best advice I can give you is feed her wet food if she won't eat dried.

Best get, while she's still pregnant I'd feed her every and anything she will eat (all being healthy of course)

How nice

I wish a better owner for your dog, she truly doesn't deserve you, that's really my best advice.

Don't you mean that she doesn't deserve the dog?

Re: Very picky Chihuahua

As you've been told, tough love. Pick a good quality wet food. Put it down, if its not gone 15 minutes later, pick it up. No bacon strips or anything till next meal. Same again.

Clearly you've pandered to her and compounded the behaviour. Now you need to undo this. She eats what you put down, or goes without. She will learn quickly.

Were your vet as good as you say, they'd have told you this. As a massive amount of posters will testify their vets have told them the same advice. I can't believe any decent vet will not be much bothered about a pregnant bitch barely eating.

But, since you'd much rather trust the advice of people you know over complete strangers, I'm baffled as to why you didn't just ask them.
Sparkle and The3DChis like this.

Re: Very picky Chihuahua

You have been given good advice here.
Yes chis can be picky, but as you know in your case she needs to eat and fast!
I agree about a good wet food or possibly Orijen or Acana which are grain free.
Try adding some warm water to the food, or rub the bottom of the bowl with chicken or cheese, even add some chicken breast to the food while it's in the water to encourage her.
That helped one of mine when she was being fussy with her RC, but then i dont blame her for that and i changed to Acana. lol
Good luck and i hope the poor baby eats properly soon and all goes well with the birth too.

No, the dog doesn't have the choice, and it doesn't deserve the type of owner it's ended up with.
