Re: RAW Diet

Thanks for the post - I have been buying the eco mince, he loves the stuff.

I will buy some organs too from tesco [hearts, livers, etc]. He has bones ontop of his diet too.

Ha ha, people need to look into the dogs history, they used to hunt wild, so I dont think eating non processed crap will kill my dog. The only thing I can see it doing is making im more healthy.

Re: RAW Diet

Go easy on the organ meat, don't give it too often, the main part of the diet should be chicken/lamb and bones. And if your gorgeous little Winston is anything like my young lady then the organ meat will make him loose... Beef does it to her too, so she only gets it once or twice a month

Re: RAW Diet

Ha ha - thanks for the tips!

Do you feed your dogs veg and fruit? if so what, and how?

Winston hates fruit chopped up.

Re: RAW Diet

Yes mine get fed liquidized fruit and veg. I just buy any fresh fruit and veg from the supermarket, avoiding foods not suitable for dogs and liquidize it all up together, pot it up into meal sizes and as I make huge batches at a time I freeze them and take them out as I need.

I did have to buy a new chest freezer when we started feeding ours raw

Re: RAW Diet

To be honest fruit and veg is optional with a raw diet for dogs. If you get the basic mix correct 10% bone, 5% offal the rest muscle meat (inclusing hearts) veg can be give as a treat every now and again. Many dog owners have been feeding without veg for years and there is no difference in the condition of the dog.

Prize Choice add chicken to their minces for two reasons 1) to reduce the cost if they were just to sell 100% rabbit the cost would be inexcess of £3.00 per kg 2) to increase the bone content. There is more than adequate bone (probably too much) in Prizechoise minces.

Economy mince does not contain bone. It is illegal to sell mince in the UK that contains bone unless the package is marked pet food only!

Re: RAW Diet

We've recently put our 2 on raw diet and they seem to enjoying most things were as they are still picky with others. On the whole though they do seem happier on raw diet and i'm thinking its just try and test things they will or won't like. They do like vegs and fruit too xx

Re: RAW Diet

Yes just try and test things each dog and breed are different so there is no guarentee that your dog will like all meats. Also introduce each meat slowly, some dogs have intolerances with different meats i.e. some dogs are allergic to chicken. Also if you are feeding offal (liver, kidney) then only small amounts as this can cause runny poo. It must be fed though as offal is a rich source of nutrients.
