Re: Bloody Fleas! (Advocate)
I use advocate and haven't had any problems. Have you actually seen the fleas on him? I know sometimes fleas jump on for 'a bite' and then fall off as the advocate kills them. I'm just thinking it could be something else making him scratch. If you've seen the fleas and they're running around on him then I guess the advocate isn't working for some reason
Have you washed all bedding etc? |

Re: Bloody Fleas! (Advocate)
I've picked a few off him today, but can't see any more, he doesnt seem to be riddled with them. Ive washed his cushion and will wash his blankets tomorrow. We live by a few cats who I know have fleas so I'll just keep an eye. Would a flea collar be helpful?

Re: Bloody Fleas! (Advocate)
I'm really not sure about flea collars - I haven't used them. What you can use though is the Frontline spray - I used it just last week on my pup for some suspected mites and you can use it at the same time as Advocate (although the vet suggested waiting a week or so between applications).
Someone else will hopefully be along soon with some more helpful advice. |

Re: Bloody Fleas! (Advocate)
Advocate, frontline and similar products are working the same way. Flea jumps, bites a dog and dies.
Maybe you should focus on surroundings and spray dog bed, carpets and sofas. Also you can use one of herbal stuff using to fight fleas, they can scare away by smell. Last edited by Andromeda; 23-08-2011 at 09:53 PM.. |

Re: Bloody Fleas! (Advocate)
have you considered a garlic supplement? i dont know the ins and outs of it but maybe google it or someone on here would know? i put garlic in the liver cake that i give lexie everyday when out walking/playing/training and we have no problems with fleas-but then again she isnt in contact with any other animals.
last summer when lexie was young pup she had harvest mites which made her scratch and have bald patches, she got them from the grass in the field behind our house (which she cant get to now as she wont fit through fence )just some food for thought |

Re: Bloody Fleas! (Advocate)
I use advocate on all my dogs (and the cats!) and find it excellent.
Most of the fleas life cycle (eggs, larvae, pupae etc) is in your house not on the dog. The general rule is for every flea on the dog there are 100 more in the house. I'd treat the house with indorex, rip fleas or something similar if you havent done that already. The other thing to do would be look at how you apply the advocate. it has to go onto the skin and you musn't bath them for 48 hours before or after you apply it. |
