Help - spiky grass seed dart

Just come back from a walk and Pix has a grass seed dart in the top of her paw. Tried to get it out but she wasn't having any of it! Any bright ideas? Was contemplating either a comb or shaver but don't want to get bitten in process! It's hard doing some things on your own

Have you got a Kong? stuff that with some goodies and let her get into it and distracted and see if you can pull it out. I use one when mine get fed up half way through grooming, make it enticing and if shes like mine, she wont careless what your doing.

Thanks for replying. She's not really into the kong - I think it's the snub nose thing, but will try and entice her with something! She's a bugger - will happily let the groomer do what she wants but not so happy for me to! She's never bitten and as she's growling want to respect the warning!! Failing that will find someone to hold her for me.

Good luck, they do need to come out asap, I was talking to someone about them this morning on our walk, and she just spotted her dog had one jusst in time, it had gone in and only the smallest amount was still visible with just enough to get a hold of.

Is it sticking out enough for you to quickly get a hold and pull out using one hand? if so how about holding a piece of ham cheese or similar so you are "baiting" and luring her, you hold it so she knows its there and can smell it but cant atually get to it immediately, so she is sniffing and licking at your hand. If you can get her lying down, and "bait" with one hand and get the dart with the other??? Dont know if that will work?

Tried feeding her cheese which she loves but now can't even feel it! She was chewing at it! Am hoping she may have got it put. Will keep a close eye on area. Thanks for your excellent advice.

With any luck she has dislodged it, if you spot them straight away then they are pretty easy to remove, its if they are not noticed and start to migrate into the skin its usually a problem so hopefully its gone now. Wise as you say though to keep a watch on the area just in case.
