Exclamation Puppy with nasal discharge and *huffing*

Hey guys. Just tonight noticed dino had some kinda of whitish discharge coming out his right nostril. He was at the vets on Wednesday or Thursday because I thought he'd been reverse sneezing, but he did it again that morning and it was definitely an expulsion of air. Glands were slightly swollen and a very slight temperature, but he said was in the grey area where he could be ill but could just be the stress of the vets, or because he's teething.
We decided to wait and see how he was since it wasn't urgent. He's not been doing the snorting thing really anymore.
But he was laying down and kinda blowing out his nose there.
He's eating and drinking fine. Still playful. Do I need to phone the vets tonight or can it wait?
We were supposed to be going to a Schutzhund trial in the morning. I'm really supposed to be there but I don't know if I should take Dino? I can't leave him here, there's no-one to watch him..
What do I doooo

Re: Puppy with nasal discharge and *huffing*

Phoned the emergency vet there. She doesn't think it sounds urgent. Doesn't see a problem with taking him to watch the SchH trial since he's fine in himself. But I'm going to find a vet out that way that I can take him to to get antibiotics. I don't want to wait until Monday to start him. Vet thinks if I leave it a couple of days it'll get to the green discharge stage. I really don't want that :/
I bring his crate with me to SchH anyway and he will have blankets and water etc. And we'll have the car at first.
I really hope my wee baby is okay if I can get him antibiotics tomorrow

Your doing your best, keeping in touch with the vets and looking to get him some antibiotics.
Hope he's feeling a little better this morning and that you have a good time at the trial.

Re: Puppy with nasal discharge and *huffing*

Dogs can get something called Rhinitis and sinusitus an infection of the nose tht can go up to the sinuses. Signs of that are sneezing, A thickish white/cream discharge that can even become foul smelling. They can also gag or retch from the nasal dischage running down inside.

It can be caused by, infection either bacterial, fungal or a virus that leads to secondary bacterial infection. It can also be started off by something like a grass seed or something else stuck that leads to bacterial infection, injury or even bad teeth although bad teeth would be more of a culprit in an old dog.

With infection too sometimes the glands can come up which I think you mentioned too? The vets obviously need to find out the cause, usuallt if its bacterial he will of course need antibiotics.

Re: Puppy with nasal discharge and *huffing*

If you take him to the trial, you risk him infecting other dogs - that's irresponsible. You don't know what's wrong with him so you can't know he's not infectious.
