First Season

Hi All
I wanted to get some advice please, I have a bitch who is 6 months and i am expecting her to come into season early next year (she is a DDB) although i am being vigilant all the time as realise this could come sooner

I have an entire male in the house as well, he will be getting done but has been slow growing - he was born poorly and underweight and is just building up now so i want to keep his testosterone levels until he is matured - which will be about March next year i think.

obviously i dont want the obvious to happen and never leave them alone unsupervised just in case, i would be able to seperate them and we have the option to send the boy to my mums while the bitch in is season.

What i was wondering is whether there is any way a botch can be prevented from coming into season as this woudl be the ideal option and what this means in terms of health (i wouldnt do anything to risk her health)

Thanks
Becky

Re: First Season

My Poppy came out of her first season about 6 weeks ago, I'd booked to travel to my Mum's house for the week and that just happened to be the week she started to bleed!! Typical! even more typical was that mum has lots of cream carpet!! Arrgh, anyway, I went to pets at home and bought a pair of bitch knickers!! They covered all necessary areas and stopped any mess, and no boys could have their way, while I'm sure they aren't fool proof but Poppy came out of it unscathed, and rather surprisingly she didn't mind wearing them!! only problem I had was taking them off every time she needed a wee!! Fine if you're there with her all the time.
Thankfully we won't have to go through it again as she's being neutered on Thursday (poor baby)!!

Hope that's some help!

xxx

Re: First Season

I think you need to have a word with your vet about this. It is possible to delay a season but whether this would be advisable for a first season, I don't know.
Your entire male will let you know as soon as your bitch starts coming into season - he will do loads of licking around the vulva but won't try to mount to begin with - so you'll have plenty of time to arrange his holiday away from home.
