Changing from Royal Canin Medium Junior to what?

Hiya, the breeder we're getting our rough collie from uses Royal Canin but after a month or so I'd like to gradually change over to a other complete food. Would Orijen be a good choice? The ingredients sound excellent but the protein content seems high? Will also feed some tripe or pet mince for variety once a day.

Any advice would be great please.

Thanks x

Acana is the lower protein version of Orijen. Are you talking about raw or cooked mince?

Acana is worth it, IMO, as you feed less due to it's superior quality.

There are other good kibbles eg Arden Grange, Barking Heads or you could go raw!

I went from RC to Orijen a few years back. The high protein content is a red herring. I only need to feed about two thirds of the amount of Orijen as I did RC which equates to the same total amount of protein despite differing percentages.

Henry has had Orijen in the past but we've now settled on Acana for breakfast with ND or AG Partners, etc for dinner. Acana has 4 flavours, which is good for variety, although I think Orijen has 3 flavours as well. Either would be a good choice, in my opinion.

Thank you, the ingredients in both sound great & I'm guessing time the two could be alternated as well for variety? X

Re: Changing from Royal Canin Medium Junior to what?

Orijen and Acana would be a great alternative. The protien is higher as there are no grains, bulking agents. which means you feed less of the food. The higher protien becomes a problem if you feed your dog similar quantities to your previous dog food. this why we stress to ne wcustomers that you feed less of Orijen/Acana, and provide feeding cups with any new orders.

You can also mix and match the varieties through each range. Use Orijen Adult as the main part, and mix in some orijen 6 fish. Good for providing variety and keeping cost down.

We have a good offer on Orijen, and all ranges of Acana Grain free in stock.

Orijen, ORIJEN ADULT DOG FOOD - 2 x 13.5KG BAGS FOR £105 UK

ACANA Dog Food UK

Cheers Fraz.

Re: Changing from Royal Canin Medium Junior to what?

I used to do it over a week, adding a little more each day, but you could do it over 10 days/2 weeks if you wanted.

Re: Changing from Royal Canin Medium Junior to what?

I'd personally recomend Orijen it's an extreemly good food. The only reason my lot arn't on it is because of the price. They are still on high quality kibbles though. Yuri and Aya are just going on to adult arden grange and Shiloh is on wainwrites puppy because of his weight. Aya has been on wainwrites puppy up until now. I'm only changing her onto Arden Grange as I think they are both simular quality and Arden Grange is cheaper in bulk.
