Paw Wax

I have recently purchased some paw wax for Major and the intructions aren't great.

I was just wondering how often should I apply?

I was thinking as his paws are a bit cracked and sore at the moment I'd put it on every day, then as they improve I'd apply it less and less until I get to about once a week.

Just wondering what others do?

Re: Paw Wax

when you say paw wax are you talking about the shaws that comes in a tin - if so I was under the impression that this was for protecting the dog from slipping in certain conditions rather than improve their condition. If they are sore you might be better off sticking to on lead walks on grass only or if you have to go on hard ground wrap them in vet wrap.

Re: Paw Wax

It is shaws wax, it says about anti slipping properties then it says apply more was for all year protection. Helps prevent damage from ...various surfaces.

Oh well I can only try, will also try and keep him on grass.

Cheers

Re: Paw Wax

I was reading about cracked pads yesterday as Bo has them at the moment and it said that if dogs are walked on grass a lot the pads stay soft unlike dogs who are walked on hard surfaces. The answer given was to walk the dogs on a hard surface to toughen the pads. Sorry that's not the answer to your question but thought it might help.

Re: Paw Wax

Interesting... the plot thickens!

He does get a lot of mixed walking I'd say roughly 50/50, he does do a lot of sprinting around as he loves playing fetch and we play it everyday, maybe this is adding undo stress and if I cut this back, but Major will not be happy

Re: Paw Wax

Vitamin E is the best thing for cracked paws - if they are really bad, get some vit e capsules from a health food shop, pop open and spread the contents on his paws - or, if they're just a little cracked and dry, vitamin e lotion will do the job. Apply either the lotion or the capsule contents twice daily until condition improves, and every few days there after to maintain if needed.
