Smile Biscuits

Not sure if I should post this here or dog chat. But here goes.

Indi does not like hard biscuits (I don't mean kibble) just something for him to munch on like a puppy snack. I buy him wainwrights salmon treats cause they're squishy not baked hard. And he eats those little marrow biscuits sometimes but normally buries them in the sofa

Are there any others cause I feel like he's getting bored with just these salmon bites.
I'd try making something if it wasn't going to turn out hard. He doesn't mind things that are 'cakey'.

Any suggestions welcome. thanks.

Re: Biscuits

Fish4Dogs do lots of dried fishy treats. Pets at Home do similar under the Fishmongers brand name.

I give mine dried tripe that I get from Morrisons.

I think JWB do crackerjacks (not sure how hard they are)

CSJ do DemBones.

You could always make livercake. That goes down a treat. I've had Heidi 2 years and continually heard about it but dismissed it. This year I decided to make some and honestly havent looked back. Wish I had taken on board much sooner just how GOOD it is

Re: Biscuits

Dem bones aren't squishy, they're pretty hard but they do crumble

I have these chew sticks i got from PAH(PAH own brand) they're circular and i thought hard initially but actually just chewy, they are quite big but break easily so you could cut one up into the right size. I have the lamb with rice and the chicken ones(they have a 2 for £3 offer on most of their own treats at the moment) and Tummel can't resist them or the strip type treats are pretty good too.

I'v heard livercake isn't hard to make at all but i've never done it as i got some from babycham on here and Tummel lost his excitement about it pretty quickly

Carrot Cheese Puffs Dog Treat Recipe - Duke really likes these ones

Ingredients:
# 1/2 cup cheddar cheese—shredded
# 1 jar baby food carrots (organic or natural—avoid added salt or sugar)
# 1 cup all-purpose flour
# 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
(optional)

Directions:
Mix baby food, flour, and garlic powder (if using). Stir until well blended. It'll be moist.

Chill for one hour.

Roll dough on a lightly floured, flat surface to 1/4” thickness and use cookie cutters of your choice or just cut with a knife.

Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown (my oven runs hot). Cool completely.

Depending on how big you cut them, it'll make around 2 dozen.

Will last at room temp. for a few days, maybe a week. Refrigerate for longer lasting treats.

Peanut Butter Goodness Dog Treats

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups white flour
1/2 cup peanut butter (all-natural or organic)
1 cup water
2 tablespoons oil

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Combine oil, peanut butter and water. Add flour, one cup at a time, forming a dough. Knead dough into firm ball and roll to 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut into 3 to 4 inch pieces. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies.

Prep time is about 20 minutes on these dog treats. They are quite soft as well

Apple Crunch Mini Pupcakes

Ingredients:
1 tbl. Baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 tbl honey
4 cups flour
2 ¾ cups water
¼ c. unsweetened applesauce
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c. dried or fresh apple

Optional: Add 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds for a healthy boost of Omega 3's

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix all wet ingredients thoroughly. Mix dry ingredients separately. Slowly add wet mixture to dry mixing as you go. Make sure dry ingredients are thoroughly incorporated into the wet.

Pour mixture into muffin tins. Bake for 1 ¼ hours or until toothpick comes out dry. Makes 12-14 pupcakes in regular pans or around 30 “mini” pupcakes.

These will last 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator. You can freeze them too.

Re: Biscuits

Ok I'm going to give the liver cake a try I've found a recipe for dogs.
I'll just have to not take it personally if he doesn't like it

Think a trip to p@h too (any excuse) for some chew sticks (is that what they're called) or Ill just look for the flavour you mention.

He just doesn't like to eat much and I feel guilty sitting there with a cup of tea and biscuit and he's got nothing.

Re: Biscuits

I'd never thought of baking for him before but they all look so easy I have to have a go. Whether they'll look like the photos on that site is another thing. Lol.
At least I'll know what's in them too plus it's an excuse to bake scones for me

Re: Biscuits

I make sardine cookies and cut them up with a coke bottle lid so as they are nice and small.

Just ordinary pastry mix with a beaten egg and a tin of sardines, mine like the tom sauce ones. The dogs love them and I use half fat and half olive oil, don't know the quantities though but go by the consistency. Give it a go, it's so easy!
