Re: Whats the best food for a Yorkie

As far as I'm aware the guide is low because it uses liver and with such a high meat content your dog will hardly need any. For a giant breed it says 1-2 so I would think what your feeding is about right. Having said the a guide is only that my dog has much less than what the guide says. If your Ella seems hungry try bulking it with rice or veg

Try the Naturediet trays from Berriewoods... You can get 4 cases (thats 72 x 390g trays in total!) for just £51.41 including free delivery! They also sell Forthglade trays at a good price too

Naturediet Pet Foods - Berriewood Pet Supplies

I've noticed PAH are selling the 15kg bags of WW for £34.99 now... I'm sure they were only £33 a little while ago. I hate the constant price rises these days

Re: Whats the best food for a Yorkie

Hi,
Congrats on your lovely yorkie Ella and a huge well done for taking care of her weight problem. She will be a much happier little girl when she is a healthy weight

Re her feeding times - Whatever routine the previous owner has made, will take a little time to alter. I think if I were you, I would take a little of the food from her RDA and offer her as breakfast. If she doesnt eat it, give her the remaining at 11. If you keep doing that she will either eat the morning one eventually because she's hungry or lose a little more weight. You can always increase the morning offer - decrease the eve as you see fit. (If you think its worth trying). Once you have established a morning meal, you could gradually move the eve one forward to a time that suits.

Re WW trays - They are excellent for tums. My Westie x JR (8K) has a v sensitive tum and has had a few upsets. WW trays always put her right and keep her well. As a result, we are keeping them part of her diet.
The RDA I feel is a bit stingy. My take is the high fibre content (5 x more) than comparable brands is presumed to fill them up so they need less. However, mine is recommended 1/4 - 1/3 tray and this is nowhere near enough for her. ND and similar brands recommend a tray a day and she has the same amount of WW (a tray a day). That said, she has very few extra's and treats and lots of exercise. I could probably cut her back slightly but nowhere near the amount they recommend.

I'm sure you will find a way to organise her meals they way you would like them, it will prob just take a little time

Re: Whats the best food for a Yorkie

I feed the wainwrights trays as well. I have one that is about 6kg and one about 7kg. I aim at three quarters of a tray per day though Candy only gets a quarter nowadays with some urinary dry food.

Is your yorkie really so obese that she needs to lose half her body weight. If so I think the vet should advise you on a safe way of doing it. She does seem quite heavy but then they vary enormously in size so there is no 'set' weight for an adult yorkie. You need the right weight for her, not for someone else's yorkie. If she is needing to lose weight then keep to a fairly frugal amount and if she is hungry boil up some vegetables for her that will fill her up without putting on weight.
She was on a very filling diet so she may well feel hungry on a 'proper' diet but her body will adjust.

As for only wanting to eat late at night - is she your only dog, can you put the food down and leave it down for her to eat when she is ready. One of mine will often not eat till about 9 in the evening even though she is offered food first thing in the morning and at about 6 oclock. I cant leave it down and she is quite lean so I would rather she did eat so I just offer it to her until she eventually eats it.
