Change in skin colour

I think this was mentioned a while back. I vaguely remember seeing a title but never read the thread and cant find it. If it was, I'm sorry.

I've noticed in the last month or so Heidi's tummy skin colour has changed from pink to black. Presumably this is a maturity thing? She's just turned 2. Not something I've come across before.

Her coat is getting darker as well. She was charcoal grey as a pup with a few brindle splodges, gradually went lighter to silver grey but now darkening again. I've heard Cairns change colour so may be it comes from the Westie/Cairn gene?

Re: Change in skin colour

I don't know for sure and can't help with the coat colour but Kenzie has some parts of darker skin when previously all her skin was pink. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to worry about.

Re: Change in skin colour

We have noticed a similar change in Freddies skin recently ( he will be 2 on Tuesday).

His tummy and underside have gone from pink to a darker almost blackish appearance and also the inside of his ears. We did wonder if it was a form of sunburn as he does love to sunbathe in the garden.

Re: Change in skin colour

I found the other thread on black skin but that was relating to an illness like alopecia. This is nothing like that - merely a change in skin pigment.

She doesnt spend much time in the sun and it's more grey than the brown you would expect from sun.

I think it must be a maturity thing but I quite liked her pink tummy
