Smile Bald Patches on my Yorkshire Terrier

Hi there, I hope you and your babies are all well. I am new to this forum and wondering if anyone can help or offer advice?

My 11 year old Yorkshire Terrier (Caillie), has always gone a little bald on her back when moulting to her Summer coat, however this year it seems to have spread up her back and the baldness is much more noticeable. Every year she has this but the hair always grows back along with her Winter coat. I'm just really worried about it, i'm a neurotic mother! She is absolutely fine within herself, eating well, still as energetic as usual. The skin itself is very dry and sort of dandruffy and she has occasionally itches. The vet suggested stress but believe me she is the happiest little thing, I work from home so she is never alone and has constant attention. I just wonder if anyone has experienced anything similar?

Thanks in advance

Re: Bald Patches on my Yorkshire Terrier

Sounds like follicular dysplasia to me otherwise known as seasonal alopecia.

It isnt anything to worry about and it isnt curable. A specialist could give you a definative diagnosis.

It could also be a sign of thyroid issues. But to be honest if your dog has made it to 11 and has no other symptoms i wouldnt bother looking in to it unless other symptoms present themselves.

I agree with the person above. As you say that her skin is prone to being flaky you could help the coat generally by adding some EFAs like Efavet, Evening Primrose, Sheen Um or similar or if she is itchy you could try some Skin Eze . I assume that you have ensured that fleas are not an issue.

Re: Bald Patches on my Yorkshire Terrier

what are you feeding her on? because this can affect the dogs coat and skin.

Re: Bald Patches on my Yorkshire Terrier

As yorkies are a non moulting breed ,i would not consider it normal to be losing hair, and would take her to a vet.
