Re: Puppy food recommendations

still non the wiser as what to do

so would you think if i can source Arden grange locally it is a good food to keep him on?

i have no idea..whats good and whats not...i read the ingredients of these foods and it means nothing to me but i do want to give him the best start i possibly can

buying a 15Kg bag though is pointless as it would last forever the amount he will eat..

Re: Puppy food recommendations

arden grange is a great food, local pet shops should be able to order it in for you. and i do believe you can get it in some branches of waitrose!

however, since mavis is already on burns, it would probably make sense to get the pup onto it as well so they will eventually be on the same food. (as long as it suits the pup of course)

oh and.....i didnt know you were getting a puppy!!! i cant wait to see pictures!

IMO Arden grange is a little better than Burns as it's more meat and less rice. But that's just me I've heard great things about burns mini bites, keeping pups nice and calm, growing nicely etc. And I think if I were you and I fed my adult dog burns, I'd go with burns. Excellent food. And you'll not have to swap anything gradually when switching to adult. Plus it'll save you having to buy two different foods.

The trainer in Novak's puppy class when I took him said Burns was the best puppy food in her opinion as it seemed to keep pups nice and calm for training. Obviously I've no idea how true that is but she ran regular puppy classes and always recommended burns.

She gave out a sheet with ingredients to look for and ingredients to avoid in food, general info about food etc. No recommendations on that. But if anyone asked her she always recommended burns.

So I went with Arden Grange LOL. but as I said, just my personal preference as Burns wasn't available in my local pet shop at the time. Had it been, I'd have no doubt gone wit that.

i prefer it as well, its what i feed my own dogs on. ands its what we use in work.

i agree that burns is great too though, and suits certain dogs down to the ground! i used to feed it to my last dog and it kept his weight down i prefer things with more meat though.

Re: Puppy food recommendations

I prefer the AG varieties with less cereal - Sensitive and Premium. Not sure how much cereal is in the puppy.
You could probably source something with as good meat content and little cereal as AG and less rice than Burns but after going round and round in circles with food I would say if he is happy on AG and it suits you, leave it at that. If not and Burns is easier for you - then go that way.

Re: Puppy food recommendations

PaH seem to be very high on quality. I've got the big dog on their trays and the Advanced Nutrition kibble currently. He is dropping weight (a good thing!) and so full of energy! It's difficult to see if he's calmer as he's a very good lad and listens/responds brilliantly anyway. I will say his coat is becoming a lot shinier-I clipped him and it went all dull!

Re: Puppy food recommendations

After phoning around the few local small petshops yesteday i managed to find one who will order me in the arden grange..so i will keep him on that as most of you say its not a bad food and its only £9.30..so result...with no delivery thats what peeved me off...ordering a bag for a tenner online and paying a fiver delivery A 15kg bag is way to big for him so i am going small size at the moment.....
Pick the little lad up on Sunday
