weird pink lump!!!

I'm a little concerned I've just noticed a lump in my dog's mouth. . . no idea why I even looked in her mouth I was just playing with her and said "Let's have a look at them teeth!!!" and lifted her "lips" (dogs don't have lips but I didn't know what else to refer to them as hahaha) and it looks like she's lost a tooth without me noticing and it looks like her gum has filled the space? it's not like a big bulging lump, it's flat on the front and back and the same length as her teeth but pink. . . like the exact same colour as her gum. . .it doesn't look like an abscess or anything infected it looks like perfectly healthy tissue but it's just very strange. . .

she's not bothered by it and it doesn't get in the way or anything and I thought it was her tongue poking through the gap at first that's how normal the tissue looks :S

she's got quite a lot of fatty lumps on her body anyway about the size of a finger tip under her fur but I've been told these are due to her never having had any puppies :S

she's a pedigree yorkshire terrier and she's 12 years old. . .so she's getting on a bit now! She's acting all sorry for herself now that I've been prodding and poking her I think she thinks I wasn't being very nice but she's eating her dog chew so

trust me to notice this at the weekend, I'm quite sure my vets is closed over the weekend. . . she's not been to the vets for a very long time because she's generally a really healthy dog

I just wondered if anyone had ever had anything similar?

Re: weird pink lump!!!

Cant help with what it might be, but old dogs do tend to get a few lumps and bumps and growths most of which do tend to be harmless. Any lumps or anything out the ordinary, should really be checked out though so I would if she was mine just pop her along for the vet to look. At least then you will know if its aything to worry about or not, better than sitting wondering. I hope shes OK.

Re: weird pink lump!!!

My dog got a funny looking pink thing hanging from his bottom lip a couple of years ago, think there is a photo on here somewhere, will try and find it. I can't remember what they call it now but they seem to disappear as fast as they come. Wonder if it's something the same? It was long and cauliflower looking.

Re: weird pink lump!!!

she has a weird cauliflower lump on the back of her head but I've been told that's nothing to worry about and that's not grown since then

god she's covered isn't she hahaha

on closer inspection (it's a good job she's a nice little dog letting me put my hand in her mouth. . .she only has a tiny mouth as well!) it looks like it's just that her gum is too big. . . because if you look on the other side of her mouth she has 2 teeth, the larger canine and then the smaller version next to it and it's the smaller one that is missing on the side where the weird bit of gum is but looking at the "normal" side the gum comes quite far down on that tooth anyway especially behind it. . .so my mum has had a look too and she thinks it's just where she's lost the tooth and it's healed up filling the hole. . .

i feel really guilty that i'd not noticed that she'd lost a tooth though!! I have no idea how she's done it because she doesn't like hard chewy treats or toys she only likes the soft ones and she has dried dog biscuits and wet food but I wouldn't think the biscuits are hard enough to actually make her tooth come out . . .so I'm baffled haha it's fully healed though so there's not really anything that I can do

to be honest I think she's just getting old and that's why she's lost it because we lost my boy a year ago last valentine's day and he was 14, she came straight from her brothers and sisters to being with him so she's never been alone at night and things, she's too old to accept another dog really as a companion and she got really jealous if you made a fuss over our boy when he was alive so she'd just get jealous if we got another and it sounds like I'm being really pessimistic but I've heard a lot of people say that when one of their dogs dies the other one goes not that long after so I'm just sort of appreciating her at the moment and trying to spend as much time as possible with her so she's not too lonely bless her

and yes it doesn't hurt to get a vet to take a quick look.. . she'd happily let them as well she loves any kind of attention . . .she'd probably see it as a day out! haha

Yes my dog had a horrible brown lump a few weeks ago and I made an appointment at the vets for the very next day which was Saturday as I would have worried myself sick all weekend. Fortunately it was a wart although it looked black it was just a scab and the vet scratched it off and said it was fine - such a relief.

that's quite similar to the thing she has on the back of her head but we've been told not to worry about that, it probably would drop off if it was in a place that touched things more often but it's right on the back of her head so the only time it gets touched by anything is when she gets stroked and played with but to be honest i avoid touching it because it feels funny hahahaha

Re: weird pink lump!!!

thanks for all the replies I will get her seen anyway I just wanted to see if anyone else had this experience and clearly people have

she's a lovely little thing and I do worry about her but the vet has told us it's normal to have fatty lumps and bumps anyway at her age like one of you lovely people mentioned too
