Naturediet-Questions & Answers

This may have been posted before, but for those that may have missed this quality wet food information, here is the link!

Naturediet

For me"and others"this has got to be 1 of the best wet foods available, and at a great price!!!

My advice to those who have not tried this with your dog,is simply give it a try, although it may not suit all dogs, its still worth a trial run.

My wee friend is looking fab on ND,i personally cannot recommend this any higher than i can!

Go on,give your dog a treat!

Like I said on the other ND thread, I'm going to go back to it. Have heard of no recent problems with the packaging and when I rang my wholesaler they said they haven't had any returns for a long while now - hopefully the packaging issue has been rectified and we can feed with confidence again!

Sorry to hijack but would any ND feeders mind confirming they've not had any problems recently with the packaging and then we can feel even more confident! (Hope that's OK, Staffybull!)

Re: Naturediet-Questions & Answers

I think someone mentioned recently seeing a few blown packs on the shelves of P@H.

I would imagine the steaming process (I believe it's done in the packets) and the moisture it creates is a bit of a hindrance when sealing. A food that is steam sterilised must retain more nutrients than those more processed which is a great plus in my opinion.

I'm all for it in theory but the packaging issues loom over it and keep recurring. I would have to buy instore and check what I'm getting but then miss out on the cheap online deals. With one small dog, bulk buying is too risky.

I tried it again recently but it went straight through. I can only think something has changed, or perhaps I should have introduced it more slowly but I've never needed to before.

Totally agree it's a fantastic food. I would love to have faith in it again.

The thing is, I spoke to ND about the blown packs on the shelves and they maintained that if the packets are thrown about they can "blow". I saw some Natures Harvest blown ones as well and they said the same. Then again, the packaging should be able to withstand a bit of "rough" treatment if they are being couriered, etc. When I went in to PAH the other day there was one on the back of the shelf but it had quite an old BB date on it and when I told the Assistant she said it had "probably been there for a while"! It may have been one of the older batch when they were having problems.

I'm willing to try it again and if I have any problems I will let ND know. When I've had a couple of blown ones in the past, they have always replaced them. I think I will just keep receipts if I buy them in boxes for the time being. I still think it is one of the best British wet foods and the best one for Henry's tum.

Re: Naturediet-Questions & Answers

At the beginning of this year my son and I, between us, ordered 6 cases of ND (18 trays to a case). Out of those 6 cases there was one blown pack. Of my previous orders (last year from about Sept), 6 cases in total, there were no blown packs. Out of my son's previous orders - another 6 cases - he did have about 3 or 4 blown packs. He phoned ND I think rather than the suppliers and they were replaced with no problems.

Re: Naturediet-Questions & Answers

Got to say I've never actually seen any blown packs of Nature Diet in the Pets At Home I use now (I saw a couple in it before it got shuffled around and I think the staff changed round a fair bit, its pretty much a different shop).

From what I remember Naturediet packaging tends to be slimmer than the likes of Wainwrights/Forthglade/Nature's Harvest and I wonder if they are just harder to seal because of narrow edges to glue the lid on, and are more prone to being damaged?

The NH, WW and F trays I've had the lids are quite tricky to get off (a nightmare on the F ones) and I think because the plastic trays are so thick they are probably a bit more robust. They are then covered in a cardboard sleeve too.

The sad fact is stock is probably handled quite roughly and dropped sometimes and with thinner packaging and less protection ND might just be the one which gets hit worst. I do think its a shame they don't seem to have publicly addressed it and fixed it though. Now they just seem like one of the good but more affordable wet foods, when before I saw them as one of the best and a price which reflected that. It is a shame.

If I was still feeding wet I would look into feeding it for the other dog at least. If he stays on wet and doesn't move over to raw ND may be his next food.

Re: Naturediet-Questions & Answers

We use them at work, and i know not long ago they were particularly unreliable. Someone said something about the company changing hands, and within a month or two they were back on top form. We have had a few instances where they handnt sealed them properly and found lots of lovely maggots, but these instances are few and far between.

The dogs love them, and are great for those with dicky tummys, elderly or recovering from treatment.

Thumbs up

Re: Naturediet-Questions & Answers

Right, I've just spoken to another Wholesaler near me where I used to buy my boxes of ND before I changed and they said they haven't had a problem with blown packs being returned for a few months now, so it seems Naturediet are back on track.

Would be interesting to hear anyone else's recent experiences with the food, ie, within the past two or three months. Hopefully confidence is restored!

I had a couple of blown packs the other week; customer service were really helpful and sent replacements straight away; they seemed to think it was an issue with how the trays were handled in transit.

Re: Naturediet-Questions & Answers

As someone that works in a P@H I have seen a huge improvement in Naturediet, there is the odd blown packet but we are not having to throw away boxes of it.

Naturediet refuse to admit there is/was a problem and are passing the buck on to retailers by claiming that they are being stored incorrectly or damaged in transit.

I did buy a few packs a couple of weeks ago which were fine. They are on WW at the moment which they like and it is cheaper, but i like to rotate and give them variety.

I need to stock up next week and am tempted to give ND another go
